    Default Jumbotron

The Pacers and the Rockets got huge new jumbotrons this year. With the Cable Box getting older, can we expect one too? Please MJ? Make it happen.

    No thanks.

Why go to the game and watch it on TV when you can do the same thing from home? The cable box has great sight lines as it is and doesn't need some big screen to mess with anything

^What he said. I've sat in pretty much every section possible (either during a game or other event) and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The only time I ever used the jumbotron was a replay of a nice play or whatever was on during a timeout. Even up in the nosebleeds you can see the court clearly enough to know exactly what's going on without the need to watch it on tv.

There are a lot better things to do with that kind of money. Maybe spruce up the concourses or something, but no need for a state of the art jumbotron when the current one isn't even out of date.

Whats wrong with the one we got? It's still one of the biggest in the NBA, and looks way better with the skyline above it than either of the two new Dallas Cowboy copies in Indy or Houston. I'm all for better technology, and would like to see the score board above the bar in section 217 become an actual video board but the main jumbotron is still well above average.

Amazing to think we used to have the biggest indoor scoreboard in the World only 5 or so years ago. Wth that said theirs no need to improve on what we have besides maybe replacing the screens themselves (looks like some of the pixels are stuck or dead.)

Why does this seem like a huge issue in sports arenas nowadays? So many arenas are replacing their jumbotrons nowadays. If you buy a ticket to watch a game why would you want a huge jumbotron blocking your view? Plus it is a waste of money if you would be staring at the jumbotron the whole game if you paid to watch the game live.

Yep. I forget the thing is even there when I'm at the games.

I'd much rather him save the money and put it towards signing a big name FA, less clothes for the LadyCats, a rebrand to the Hornets/Flight, or general arena improvements.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it if MJ wanted to fork out the cash for it, and it wasn’t taxpayer funded (or the public only provided a nominal amount). The trend in modern venues seems to heavily favor GIANT screens (which is also true of our own screens at home), and it’s often a point of pride for venues and communities. I’ve seen games in many NBA arenas, from MSG to Staples Center to the Magic’s absurdly nice new arena (Amway Center), and the screen at the latter certainly enhanced my enjoyment of the game. When used correctly, they can be a lot of fun during timeouts and commercial breaks. Also, things like bigger screens and ribbon boards significantly increase ad revenue which, if re-invested in the team, often serve to ultimately improve the fan experience. Provided it doesn’t divert funds from a more pressing area of need, I don’t really see a downside.
