While I love the Hornets logo and everything, this team isn't the Hornets, it's the Bobcats. We are a completely different team from the Hornets. I just don't see the point.

I still think the side paneling is a foreshadowing to what a new uniform would look like. I wonder if they rebrand, if they keep the current color scheme and just drop the orange - so it'd be the Charlotte shade of Carolina Blue, Navy, and Silver. I just think Jordan may be trying to establish a shade of Carolina blue to go along with the Panthers and Tar Heels as part of our state's identity.

One thing that we need to take back from New Orleans though is this:

Ric Flair is a Charlotte native, I don't know why the asshole Shinn thought he could usurp his trademark cheer and try to pretend its a New Orleans thing.

Although we should only use it for awesome plays and not on made free throws, that'd get annoying fast.

itd be neat and all for about 5 minutes, until we all realized its still Mully jackin up threes, Biz dropping the ball out of bounds, Kemba getting blocked, MKG bricking 15 footers, just in different colors.

To me it would be like remarrying your ex wife after a painfully bitter and hostile divorce. Things just wouldn't be the same.

I would rather move forwards than backwards.

all the hostilities were directed at Shinn though, if he's not in the picture it could work out.

I don't want to rehash the debate because most people on this board have made their opinions known..

My main point is, the people that love the team will love them if they change the name or not. Even though WarioVSMoochicken, Ziggy, etc prefer the Bobcats name, I don't think you guys are going to quit being fans if they go back to being the Hornets are you? I think the fans of the Bobcats team today, will be fans of the Charlotte Hornets team tomorrow if they changed names.

On the other side of the coin, I believe that going back to the Hornets will bring in some people that so far haven't given the team a chance. All of the informal polls (The Observer, Radio shows, comments on the Observer, petitions, bringbackthebuzz SWARM events, etc, etc) have shown a great appetite for the name to come back home.)

Me for example, I'm going to be a fan no matter what but, I have to be honest- pulling on a Charlotte Hornets MKG jersey and going to a game and watching Hugo spin in the middle of the court before introductions gets me more excited than pulling on a MKG Bobcats jersey and watching DUFUS Lynks and his sunglasses do his thing... Maybe it's nostalgia but, it's my honest opinion.

anyone listening to FNZ this morning? The Bobcats never get talked about, this morning one of the main topics is the name change. The team as well and as surprising as they are playing gets very little callers, the name change loads the lines.

I see it as a no lose proposition.

if our rebuild with Cho goes as planned and coincides with a rebranding to Hornets it will be lauded as a genius move, even though the real support would come from the winning. the reason this team has no support is because theyve always sucked, nothing to do with the name

honestly, Charlotte sports fans suck, whether your at BoA outnumbered by other teams fans every week, or sitting in empty TWC. "Lets go see the Hornets!!" yeah thatll draw out the crowds for a solid week or so till they realize its the same crappy team.

plus, we shouldnt throw something that big on ol' Steve Martin at this point in his life. he can barely handle things the way they are now

Winning is important- I won't dispute that and this town is different now than it was then but, the Hornets never won and it didn't effect attendance. see chart below.

the biggest drop off was two factors

    1. the lockout and build up to it 1998-2000
    2. the dot com bubble bursting and 9/11 market collapses immediately following the lockout

i think basketball attendance post corporate nba (say before mid 90's) is much more related to economic strength. when the economy is in recession and companies are slashing expenses, attendance falls due to not renewing boxes/seats. with ticket prices so expensive due to corporate ties (much cheaper tix in the 70's-early 90's) once the economy lags fans can't pay the ticket prices. in other words, to the majority of attendees the game is a sideshow to the event. people don't really care about the game itself. when the team wins and is exciting the event is much more of an IN thing. see: golden state playoff run in 2007.
