So to you the 66 or so games last season with no training camp & Silas the train wreck vs. this year is pretty much the same in regards to player development for our players and Kemba in particular?

Explain that to me if you would.

Defense is a team effort (especially zone) and Kidd has always been a part of solid defensive teams throughout his tenure in the NBA. I never stated that Kidd's defense won the Mavs the title over the Heat but I did state that he was was a solid presence on that end. Either way, I was agreeing with fan_of_a_fan's post that you don't have to be a '10 assist per game' PG to win a championship and only Jason Kidd averaged over 6 assist to help lead his team to a title over the past decade or so.

is this the "it is really his rookie year" thing again? i freely admit that the situation is much better this year than last and more conducive to improvement. BUT, our offense is every bit as dysfunctional this year in the half court set as it was last year and this to a large extent occurs because of the type of point guard kemba is in my opinion.

i am not denying or afraid to admit that kemba has improved. he is much better thus far this year than he ever was last year. i hope he continues to improve but our offense is absolutely horrid in the half court.

ok. i have no issue with this. it seems i am in multiple arguments here. this one i have no qualms with. i said earlier, i am confident in saying you don't even need a decent pg to win a ring.

So would you say DJ is also this "same type of point guard"? It certainly didn't run much different with him at the helm vs. Kemba.

Do you not think the lack of any post player had no effect last season and on this one as well? Hasn't our offense suddenly gotten better since Mully finally realized that he actually can shoot inside that painted area?

What about not having anyone in the starting lineup other than Kemba and now MKG who can create their own shot?

Did "Chef" really just say that our offense is every bit of dysfunctional as last year's? Ditto that it's not running like a well oiled machine, but we have made great strides. Not to leave out the "half court set" part because we are currently 7th in the league in fast break points, but pushing the tempo is a part of the game that not every PG have the skill sets to execute properly either. I'm sure we would be a top tier half court offense if we had a all-star caliber post presence OR a superstar scorer. Unfortunately we don't. At least not yet.

I thought so too at first but now I'm not so sure. From that quote I replied to above Chef thinks it takes a certain TYPE of PG to succeed. I think having a Chris Paul certainly helps...but since only a couple come along every decade or so AND the fact that so many PGs have won without having those attributes I don't agree with it.

If you're talking 1st option then sure...but is anyone saying they want/expect Kemba to ultimately be our 1st option? I know I'm not.

I'd like to make it known that Chris Paul hasn't won dick in his entire lifetime... but he has punched people in theirs. not so sure he's the guy we want to be searching for.

dj is a very similar pg to kemba in the way they have trouble managing the game and getting the ball to where it needs to go. kemba is a much much much more aggressive scorer.

we suck so yes that is a huge reason but our offense hasn't gotten any better in the half court this year. trivially better since hendo has been out. this partly speaks to our pg play.
