I think the reason we have been trading for other teams picks eg Detroit and Portland is that will allow us to play to win. But this will allow us to still have assets to move into the top of the draft or if one of those teams falls we can get a pick out of it ourselves.

Besides, after last year I feel we are due to jump up in the draft! So let's go finish 14tj and get the 0.3% chance at the number 1 pick! Haha

We are not going to be as bad as Detroit and Toronto are this year. We most likely won't be making the playoffs either. By "blowing it up", this franchise would show every single player in the NBA, including the ones on our roster, that we do not care about winning - just about our draft position, all the cap space we are going to have soon will mean nothing. We are winning with a young core, with lean salaries, playing above the levels expected. Who would want to go to a rebuilding team that is so hellbent on getting a high pick that they begin to rebuild the rebuild? No one. So, let's see if 1) they can keep it up 2)it continues to translate into wins. If MJ and Cho wanted a repeat of last year, they would have kept Silas and not signed anyone. But they brought in new people for a reason; get the fan base at least a little interested before we start making bigger moves. It is working and should not be undone.

I'm thinking this was the plan all along. If we wanted to full blown tank this year, we wouldn't have signed Sessions and Haywood. We pursued Jamison and Humphries as well. We'd be even better had we nabbed one of those guys

Even if we tanked for 3 more years and landed a superstar we are still a small market team. Of that 03 draft class full if stars how many stayed on the team that drafted them?

I've been on the tanking side to get picks while we slowly improve aka the thunder model. But the thunder got ridiculously lucky that there was a superstar like Durant that is modest and really bought into the small market underdog idea. If he had a different attitude then they could just as easily be the magic, hornets, nuggets, cavs, raptors.

Exactly Cat....Mj has no intentions of tanking or having another horrible year....he is running a business and needs to make $$$....and we all know that if the Cats win on a regular basis that the Cable Box will be rocking every night....

Catnation...like u said not only did we sign Sessions and Haywwodn as well as trade for Gordn....we made very serious efforts to sign Humphries and Jamison....im really glad we didnt use our $$ on either of those guyts...bc they would jyst stunt the growth of Mully and Biz......on a side note i thoink its funny that Jamison chose the Lakers bc the guy is barely playing at all and is having his worst season as a pro....Hump is solid but i would rather use our $$ on this years free agent class

Where would OKC be without Durant, Westbrook, and Harden? (dont have him anymore but got a nice young player in return)

Ill tell, they wouldnt be a title contender.

Its simple, you need to blow things up and build through the draft if you are not a high market team. And might I add pray to get Lucky.

Its about winning the chip, plain and simple. Screw going to the playoffs every year only to lose to a team full of super stars.

OkC did not tank on purpose...they had a horrible year during Durants rookie year but i think made the playoffs a year or 2 after.....they played hard and added some young talent via free agency / trades and went out and won games and let the picks fall in place....they had some good luck with Westbrook and Harden......its a no brainer guys.....lets win games...we can improve an already promising roster via a great yr for free agents / by trading expirings for Vets on other teams and by getting lucky in the lottery or using our multiple pickd to trade up in the draft if we see some1 that we have to have

Doesnt matter is they tanked on purpose or not. The fact is they sucked and got high draft picks which netted them durant, westbrook, and harden.

Which is the only reason they are a title contender. Had they won some meaningless games those years they would not be in the position they are in now and certainly would have missed on some of those players.
