Okafor and Morrison were our first and third picks while we were, you guessed it, really bad.

After that, we did what you seem to be advocating for. That's getting progressively better while working towards a low playoff seed. Since the Ammo draft, our picks have gone:

    8 (traded for Richardson)
    9 (Augustin)
    12 (Hendo)
    16 (traded for Lexy)
    9 (Kemba)

That's literally every pick at least as late as #8.

    From Cho's mouth himself:

"One of the questions I asked was, 'Are you willing to take a step back to take two steps forward?' " Cho says. "The answer was unanimously yes. I knew it wasn't going to happen overnight. It was going to be a process."
You can interpret "taking a step back" and "process" however you want.

history of #5 pick as far as franchise or near franchise guys:
    franchise: barkley, pippen, garnett, wade
near franchise: mitch richmond, ray allen, vince carter
in the air: love, boogie and rubio

that is 10 out of 32 picks that were solid.

#1 picks franchise or near franchise:
ralph sampson, akeem, ewing, robinson, larry johnson, shaq, webber, ai, duncan, yao, lebron, dwight howard, derrick rose, blake griffin
    in the air: kyrie, davis
    16 out of 32

    #3 pick:
nique, jordan, penny, grant hill, stackhouse, abdur-rahim, billups, baron davis, gasol, melo, deron williams
in the air: horford, harden, favors
    14 out of 32

swedd is absolutely right, you have a much better shot at a franchise or near franchise guy with picks 1-3 than anything else. his point is very far from null and void

Shitty Front Office to thank for those picks.

You need to be picking top 3. So out of 8 drafts we only had 3 real high picks. Two of those 3 drafts were extremely weak. Just unlucky.

The year we drafted Felton is we would have sucked just a bit more we could have got Deron Williams or CP3.

He might very well be a better coach than Dunlap but he didn't pull out enough of a showing in his first dozen games to compare to what Dunlap has.

you do realize we were a top 2 defense in the league the year we were at the 8 seed right?

i hated larry brown as a coach but brown did not make near the errors that dunlap has made thus far. he is a young coach but you can't excuse the errors that have been this year.

That thinking would have prevented us from trading all of our older players and doing bad enough to get Kemba, Bismack, Mully, Jeff, and MKG.

Would you rather have some combination of Crash, Jack, Felts, and Diaw, or the group we have now? Don't answer that.

I'd gladly listen to any suggestions of how to make a small market team like Charlotte a championship contender without consistently drafting very high.

drafts are a crapshoot and future drafts are always overhyped.

Experts thought Westbrook and Harden were bad picks at the time

In my opinion we are still in tank mode. It's funny to say that when you are above .500 but we gotta be honest with ourselves here.

2 months for Tyrus for a sprain? Seems like the ultra conservative injury reactions we saw last year. The difference being we won't be the worst team in the league this year... just one of them.

It seems that some people are interpreting Swedd's desire to continue chasing draft picks as disparaging our current players. I think thats the wrong way of looking at it. If anything, seeing this team play well together and be so so so young is the perfect reason to continue the draft strategy. Adding another top talent to this team can't be bad. Again being honest. Can this team with its scrappy winning style and ultra-youth movement beat Miami, LA, OKC, Spurs, in a 7 game series in a playoff situation?? the answer is a resounding no. We just aren't ready for that. If you want championship caliber team, you continue drafting. If you wanna be playoff fodder, then you abandon the plan (again).

And the "fan" argument is a terrible one that we've had on here forever. "we need to win some games so that the local fans buy in" . No we don't, fuck that. If they aren't fans now, they are band wagon fans and will only join up when the team is winning anyway. They will fall off after a 2 game losing streak. That's chasing bad money.

Again I think this is all moot. We are a total different team from last year. A much improved, fun team to watch. You gotta remember though, that's not saying much. I still think 29 wins is a solid target for this team. Solidly in the lottery, but 4x better than last year. Teams will catch up to our style, won't sleep on us and wont always be missing their top two players when we face them. Enjoy the wins, and accept the losses.
