As usual there's a middle ground to be taken. Hendo is a decent SG. If he could gain an ability to hit the 3 at >40% then there is, unquestionably, a place for him on this team. It all comes down to value ... can we resign him to an acceptable contract or can we get more 'value' by trading him?

If we take our 'fan' hat off and replace it with a 'GM' one then Hendo is an asset and we need to get the most value for him. The one thing we can not do is pay him too much money to stay. I don't think anyone (aside from his agent) rates him as more than a $6 million per year player, for example.

We can not hurt our cap in order to retain an eminently replaceable player.

from a coaching perspect imo, Henderson doesn't really have a role he just doesn't fit well on a basketball team.

he's basically average on offense and average on defense..ok.

whats a coach to do with that? a coach would rather have the two guys behind him that can specialize (Taylor with elite D, and Ben with instant offense). it makes the tactical decisions much easier.

i wouldnt go as far as saying henderson doesnt fit well with this team....its not as though he is 34 years old and not able to keep up with a run and gun team....watching the 1st game of the year vs Indiana it looked to me as though he fit nicely .....Im not a huge Henderson fan but i will admit that he is a pretty good player..he above average on defense and on offense he has a very nice stroke from 15-20 coming off screens...and he is very capable of running the floor and taking the ball to the basket...i think that with our team being a run and gun team that lacks a really good half court game that Henderson is somewhat of an asset right now...i think Henderson excells in the halfcourt game where he can run around and catch screens and pop...also he has a decent little post up turn around shot...im not sure about having him here long term..unless he is fine with taking 6-7 mill a year...but for this season he is definately needed....while i think Jeff Taylor was a great 2nd round draft pick i really really dont think he should be starting at the #2 spot right now...Taylor plays really good defense but the position is called shooting guard for a reason....we need some1 in there that can score and Taylor isnt ready for all that yet...We cant start Gordon due to the size issue so i think its a neccesity that Hendo is here this season...i personally think he makes us a better team when he is there ..we look much better with Henderson starting and Godon backing him up then we do with Taylor starting and Gordon backing him up ....i say we offer Henderson 4 years 24-28 million(....if he accepts then great ..if he turns it down then we can trade him be4 the deadline...and if we dont get a good trade offer then we just sign him to his qualifying offer and he is here 1 more season after this
