Default Mullens top 20 in boards

Not bad for a 3 point specialist we got for a bag of chips.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/pl...3/seasontype/2

He's also top 40 in blocks.

If he keeps that up, he has a good argument for top 30 bigs in the game.

Also interesting: we have 4 guys (MKG, BB, TT, and Mullens) in the top 40 in blocks and Haywood is close to 50. 5 guys in the top 50 is pretty impressive.

Good job Mully. I wish Dunlap could brainwash him to step in to post up rather than step back to shoot the three by season's end. From the small sample size that I have seen from him in the paint he can score very efficiently down there when he try to.

Did you catch Bonnell's latest blog?

There’s no maybe anymore that power forward Byron Mullens has bought into defense. Look at his numbers Wednesday: 15 rebounds and four blocks to go with 12 points. Dunlap had a funny line about changing Mullens’ mindset: “We found out a long time ago with Byron that threats work.’’

Yes, that was intended to be funny, but I can tell you Mullens is intensely concerned with not letting down Dunlap. He told me as much a week ago. I asked Dunlap in the post-game about Mullens trying so hard to please. Dunlap replied that bond was established firmly in the off-season.

“Byron and I worked out all summer,’’ Dunlap said. “That relationship is more than player-coach. He’s very young and I’m used to coaching those guys (from his college experience). We buy into each other.’’

By the way, Mullens had an X-ray on a sore ankle after the game. No fracture detected.
Mully is really starting to come around. Yeah we all hate him jacking up 3s when he's continually missing them, but before our eyes he's starting to add other facets to his game.
Hope Resurrected: "I think I can bring an attitude to a team as far as, All right, no matter what, we are not losing this game'." - Kemba Walker

I absolutely hated Mully last year and this year my opinion has totally changed. You can tell he was buying into the Dunlap system from game 1 of summer league. That I can respect.

Glad to see him turn it around.

Even happier to see Dunlap as the catalyst.

The only area Mullens isn't performing in, statistically, is his shooting percentage.

His Assist to Turnover rate of 2.0 is third on the team behind only Kemba 2.8 and Sessions 2.5.

He's our top Rebounder with 9.0 per game. He's averaging a Steal every game and getting 1.14 Blocks per game, while staying out of foul trouble with 2.7 per game.

If he can just get his shooting mojo back (.390/.282/.67 - FG/3/FT - is just woeful for him) then we'll have a genuinely all round capable, double-double Big on our roster!

Some other ”Top 20” lists for Mully:

    Seven Feet of Smooth
    ”No blood no foul” yells
    Questionable facial hair choices
    Not dropping the soap
    Intelligent shot selection
