i think he's just a slightly better, less craz, easier to be around version of tyrus when it comes down to it. he's at that crossroad right now of possibly living on potential and turning the corner and i like the fact that he actually wants to get better and does try - but that doesn't mean i can't say that watching him jack up 3s and spread his legs on defense makes me sick

The inconsistent defense bothers me more than anything. Honestly we need his shooting right now and I think that's why the coaching staff is giving him the green light. But with Taylor becoming better from 3, and hopefully Gerald will be better once he returns, that should balance things out more to where he can limit his 3 pt attempts to 3 a game at the most.

After a crazy night, he's up to near 30%...

In Byron's defense, I think this is something that Dunlap told him to do tonight. Without Tyrus and Biz, him getting in foul trouble would mean long minutes with Warrick or Diop. Mullens avoided the paint tonight as if he was allergic to it, there is no way that would/ could happen without the coach being involved.

I think he only took 1 shot in the paint the whole night. It may have been the only shot within 15 feet.

To be honest it would make sense for him to draw the opposition big men out of the paint. And I can see why Dunlap would keep Mullens out of the paint (esp. if Haywood fouled out, can you imagine Diop's fat ass for anything more than 20 minutes out on that court? I shudder).

His mid-range game is still solid though, don't think he missed from their tonight (although I think he only took 2 shots from there) I wish he'd be more like Chris Bosh and use his mid-range game more and then ever so occasionally step out and hit the 3.

Its a shame he tends to camp the 3 point line, he has some nice moves around the rim. The whole team goes through chucking periods during games though.
Cheering harder for the Hornets to lose than the Bobcats to win, just like the good old days.

I agree, but I really think it's coaching that tells him to camp outside the arc. If they didn't want him doing that, he wouldn't be in the game.

Mullens is avg. 13.8 pts, 8.8 Reb and 1 Blk per game. He has a PER of 15.00. This for a 2nd round pick. And him taking those 3's and making a few when he is hot is what brings out a defending Big from the opponent which allows for MKG and Kemba to get the ball in the paint and often to the rim. Without Mullens, we are NOT 7 - 5 right now. So all this complaining about him is utter BS!

You can criticize a guy without wanting him off the team.

He has the potential to play better. A lot better. That's all this is. No need to set a low bar for a guy and defend him for essentially sandbagging it. He plays because there is literally no one else but Diop back there too by the way.

They obviously want him more inside so that shouldn't be up for debate. Remember the game a few back where Byron played off the post and both Dunlap and Kemba gushed about it?

Just want to see progression. He's playing D better and he's looking to play off the block more. He's not "there" yet but he's improving.

As an aside...did anyone catch how many times he got ignored off the P&R in OT last night by both PGs? I want to chalk it up to everyone being worn out and that's my position, but I was surprised it wasn't pointed out to them during timeouts as it was happening a LOT.
