    From Grantland:

    "Byron Mullens

Mullens isn't a huge usage guy, but he's become a lightning rod thanks to his 5.4 3-point chucks per 36 minutes, nonexistent free throw attempts, and wildly inconsistent defense and rebounding. But the numbers, at least on the surface, suggest Charlotte fans might miss Mullens when he's gone. The Kitties have scored 102 points per 100 possessions when Mullens plays and just 92.7 when he sits; the first mark is about a point higher than league average, while the second would rank only above the Wizards.

Mullens had a similar impact last season, lifting Charlotte's offense from the nether regions of NBA history to a level that would still have ranked dead last, but was at least within sight of no. 29. Again: Bigs who can shoot have value.

But does Mullens? Or are these numbers simply the product of his inept and/or inexperienced replacements?"

You don't score 27 points and get 8 rebounds if you just flat out suck. It's not a fluke he's done this before. Good job Byron, keep it up.

I'm a Mullens homer. I'm a believer, even if he isn't my ideal vision of a PF.

I dont think any1 can say Mullens sucks...if they do then they are delusional....i can understand if people dont like him and dont think he is our long term answer at PF...but i am definately on the Mullens bandwagon...i liked him last year and thought getting him for a 2nd round pick was a steal last year..and he wasnt even that good last year...fast forward to this year and he has definately improved his game...He still may shoot from 3 a little too much but the guy seems to be working hard on his game and along with Kemba he has see the most benifit of Dunlap's teaching

He has improved his scoring average ( which is prob due to more minutes ) but more importantly he has improved his rebounding drastically...and even though he still isnt a good defender he has shown flashes of improvment on the defensive end...also he seems to be getting more blocks / assists and steals...overall i have been impressed with him this season and at only 23 years old i definately think he is worth holding onto and signing him to maybe a 3 year deal @ 6 or 7 million...even if he isnt the guy at the starting PF spot that can lead us deep into the playoffs he can definately be an asset and can be a great backup at the PF and Center spot that can give us 20-25 minutes..as of right now he should be our starter but if we can add a Milsap or a better PF then having him backing up whatever guy we may bring in just makes us an even better team

I really don't like these sarcastic MVP chants as it makes our fan base looks like complete jerk offs.

Yeah, I can see it if you're a bust lottery pick with an attitude, but Mullens was a dime store pick up for us and has played hard for the most part. Pretty lame. Hope it's being misinterpreted. The last thing we need is a kid trying to deal with a bunch of heady nonsense.

My fiancee has pointed out that this season at games I say "Mullens!" or "Mully!" as if I'm cursing out loud. Its a very love-hate relationship with him (he's also on my fantasy basketball team, adding fuel to the fire) but seriously lets not forget we got Mullens for a throwaway second round draft pick. He's putting up 14 and 9 and continues to develop his game. Sure, I'm forced to sink my head into my hands with him more than any other guy on the team, but he's also showing a lot of drive and grit and I can never complain about that!

Mullens is one of the reasons we are having such a strong start to the season. I think he is shooting WAY to many 3's, but that is the Coaching staffs job to move him. He has shown better then expected low post moves (IMO) and I would like to see him in the post more. People saying they like Tyrus better have to be joking....

I have the belief that if you're on a team that is developing and not fighting for a championship, you have around 3 years before anyone can start calling you a bust. Plenty of players have had basically non-existent rookie and sophomore seasons, only to have all star or borderline all star seasons in their year 3, 4, or even 5.

Mullins is essentially on year 2, and he's showing TONS of promise. Yes he makes dumb plays, but so does just about EVERY player who gets put into a starter position out of no where. I really think the haters (I hate that word so much) need to calm down. This whole year is alllll about development. Which partly means we need to slowly, but surely, get those boneheaded plays out of our player's systems. Best way to make that happen is with playing time.

I read comments elsewhere that Mullens could be an MIP consideration yet we're chanting MVP as derisive smack? I don't understand the self-loathing. To me, Mully is one of those pieces we should build around (and we certainly should root on). He's doing things the coach's way and he's got a green light to shoot from Dunlap himself. If he's coming off the bench for big points/boards next year because of acquisition or if he's starting, I think he's a benefit to the team. If he's jacking up too many threes from here out or not, I am convinced it's like the rest of his game right now .... it's because he's being asked to do so.
