I'm instituting a "If you see something, stomp someone" policy at the games. If I see someone sarcastically chanting "MVP" at Mullens, I will nonchalantly walk to their aisle and stomp as hard as I can on their feet as I pass. Douchebags.

I'll admit, I only read the link and the first page, but is it a consensus that the chants were sarcastic? Those that were there, is that how you took it? I hesitate to believe based solely on Bonnell's observation. If it is true, that's pathetic and disappointing. Honestly, it's easier for me to believe that it was a genuine chant than a sarcastic one; that just doesn't seem like something a group of Bobcats fans would do. Having been to a couple hundred Cats games over the years, I've never been there when a player is singled out in such a way for derision. Players have definitely been booed, and I've been a part of that at times, as we all have, but this? Not cool if true.
"The Charlotte Hornets name has been a mainstay throughout the region for many years, and we are excited to announce our intention to re-establish this historic brand. We believe that its return will galvanize our fan base by unifying our loyal Bobcats fans with those who have strong memories of our city's NBA predecessor." MJ, 5-21-13
I haven't taken it as sarcastic, to be honest. It seems like some "over-enthusiastic" fans letting loose to me. Kemba gets the "KEM-BA WALK-ER" chant at the line at times. Is that a slam, too? To Bonnell, it just might be. Of course, I've learned over the years that Bonnell views sooooo many things differently than most. So I just took it with a grain of salt knowing it came from him and knowing what I took from the chants.
Not sure why the fans would disrespect Mullens like that...its not like he is Diop or something ( i would advocate yelling at Diop ) ...but Mullens has been a nice surprise since coming here last year...i just dont understand why hometown fans would yelll those thing at him...when we puts it on the line night in and night out....i guess it kinda goes hand in hand with fans wanting us to suck and lose games to get a better draft pick...we really have to change the fan base's way of thinking here in Charlotte....we have been conditioned to be a little bitter towards our NBA team
Right now Mullens just isn't a good player. His 3pt % is a abysmal 29.6%. Last year he was at 23.5%. That was thru 65 games with 25 starts. He only had 51 atts from 3pt last year.
So far this year thru 13 games he's had 71 atts from 3pt. His avg is slightly better which shows improvement, but geez man, that's way too many for a guy shooting 29%. Comparably, Andrea Bargnani is shooting 33% with more minutes (34.9MPG) and less attempts (65).
That's my biggest issue with him. That and the fact he holds the ball waaay to long at the top of the circle. It's better than it was last year but the ball movement always stops when he's in that position.
Post game better? Yes. Defense? Yes. Rebounds? absolutely. No problems with him trying to improve and doing so there. He just gotta keep working, shoot less three's and exploit the post more. Imo

^so you're saying he's improved in just about every facet of the game?

I think it could be a matter of either one, or perhaps both. Just by this thread alone, there's a few people who said they can't stand Mullens, so I assume there's other people in the city who feel the same way, who ended up getting liquored up at the game and thought it would be funny to jeer one of our own guys.
But I also remember the Matt Carroll fanatics back when he was once a basketball player. There was always a huge cheer when he got in the game and nailed a three. One game, I was sitting next to a couple belligerent fans who kept going on about how "Matt Carroll is the greatest basketball player of all time, he is the reason basketball was invented," and kept yelling at the coach to put him in the game. They obviously knew he wasn't the greatest, but they also were big fans and weren't being sarcastic.
I guess it was more similar to when you watch your little brother or sister play sports, they may not be the best, but they're family so you're gonna talk them up more than their actual abilities. Hopefully that makes sense.
