MVP Chants & Byron Mullens

The guys that do the chants literally sit in the last row of a corner section in the upper level. Of course they are sarcastic, but I just think it's funny honestly. I don't think it's as much as a slap in the face to Mullens as it's other teams do this chant for their best players, so why not do it for a guy that shoots a lot for us? Think we should lighten up a little on this one guys....

I think it could be a matter of either one, or perhaps both. Just by this thread alone, there's a few people who said they can't stand Mullens, so I assume there's other people in the city who feel the same way, who ended up getting liquored up at the game and thought it would be funny to jeer one of our own guys.

But I also remember the Matt Carroll fanatics back when he was once a basketball player. There was always a huge cheer when he got in the game and nailed a three. One game, I was sitting next to a couple belligerent fans who kept going on about how "Matt Carroll is the greatest basketball player of all time, he is the reason basketball was invented," and kept yelling at the coach to put him in the game. They obviously knew he wasn't the greatest, but they also were big fans and weren't being sarcastic.

I guess it was more similar to when you watch your little brother or sister play sports, they may not be the best, but they're family so you're gonna talk them up more than their actual abilities. Hopefully that makes sense.

Absolutely, and I think this is/was the tone of the chant...that's much more in line with the Cats fans I'm accustomed to. I loved the liquored-up Matt Carroll fanatics and will miss them (or their fandom) much more than I'll miss the player.
