I think every1 would rather have Ben Gordon and a 1st round pick over sorry ass Maggette

Ok, but it's early for me right now and I'm going to do it off the top of my head.
DET...lottery protected this offseason, then top 8, then top 3 (or 1). That means if they make the playoffs this year or in other words if they're pick is 15th, 16th, etc. we would get it. Next season if it's 9th, 10th, etc. we get it...and so on.
I think the POR pick is top 12 protected for at least 2 more years and the same thing above applies here.
If DET made the playoffs this year we would have paid an extra 2 million this season plus like 12 (again not looking it up) in salary for Gordon vs Maggette...costing us like 14 million for a 15th pick.
It could end up being a VERY good pick or it possibly won't. I think it's a gamble with decent odds, but you can't ignore the money they put out there in the attempt.

Spectre..I do understand your point about being expensive price for a pick ..but when u honestly look at it ..we are pretty much paying the same this year ..and we will pay 13 mill next year ..but it's not going to have much affect on us ..we still will have plenty of cap space next year and having Gordon isn't going to affect us signing other players to make us better..... as fans it doesn't affect us bc we aren't paying his salary next year we just get to enjoy the pick ..and his 13 million salary won't be on the books the entire season anyway bc Cho will trade that Golden ticket for something really nice ..so it will basically be us paying a couple months extra salary as opposed to an entire season
..We will not only be receiving Gordon and a pick but we will also be receiving whatever we get for Gordon when we trade him ..which will prob be another player and pick ..and lastly ..Detroit isn't making the playoffs anytime soon ( they r trash and in salary cap hell ) so this pick we get from them is going to be a 100% a top 10 pick and more then likely a top 5 pick ..
Hopefully that all males sense bc it's early for me as well
The money is there, absolutely and shouldn't necessarily be ignored. But I believe I remember reading Hollinger explain it this way...before the trade, we were going to have spend to hit the salary floor next season. So with the Gordon trade, Cho was able to get a pick for money he was going to be required to spend anyway while also getting a player more useful than Corey Maggette was. (I understand that when I say "more useful than Corey Maggette was" I'm casting a wide net)
I'm not saying it's not a lot to pay for an uncertain draft pick, but framed in the way that it was obtained with money we were going to have to spend anyway it's more of a lower-risk gamble, I think.
Scotley u are correct ..our cap # without Gordon next year would have been 26 million ..so we had to spend $$ ..better to spend it on a guy who will only be on the payroll at latest the trade deadline and probably sooner then on a long term deal with some1 ..so to spend the $$ we were going to have to spend anyway and only for half a season at most and to get what will be a high pick for doing it is a great move ..and Gordon isn't horrible ..he can help us an I think once he gets a better feel of his role and gets more comfortable that he will contribute more then he has so far
Detroit really gave us a great deal ..they could have given us a bum player like a Diop type ..at least we get some contribution from Gordon ..and the great thing about these Cho moves is it's like the gift that keeps on giving ..bc we are gonna in turn trade Gordon either for the same type deal ( another player and another pick ) or a really good big man or even just a really good 1st round pick ..either way Cho knows what he is doing so let's just watch him work his magic ..
I couldn't resist rearing my ugly mug on this thread when I saw the title just so I could throw out a friendly (if a tad pompous) TOLD YA SO!!!!!!
Couldn't find the thread but when drafted and post-summer league, I had a feeling that JT would push Junior for the starting 2 this year and unseat him (argument based on if Junior is retained) sometime next season. Now he's gotten his chance this year because of injury and when Junior gets back I expect him to resume starting role but the seed has definitely been planted with Jeff's play thus far...a superior defender, a 3 point threat and equally athletic.

i have really been impressed with Taylor....it took him a few games to shake the nerves off and to settle in but when he did he automatically showed how strong he is on the defensive end...he is a lockdown defender without a doubt...for Dunlap to put Taylor on the other teams best player in late game situations ( after only a handful of games ) shows just how much confidence Coach has in him...
so i think we can all agree that Taylor is an asset for this team in the future..he could probably stay in the league 10 years just on his defense alone ..prob as backup but u get my point...1 thing that was lacking was his scoring ability that he showed in the summer league..i think his slow start in the scoring department was due to him adjusting to the NBA game and getting comfortable ...over these last 5 games he has really got back to being a scorer and his jump shot is finally falling....in the last 5 games he has averaged 12 points a game as opposed to the 6 points he averaged in the 7 games prior..The guy is a keeper and with or without Henderson here Taylor is going to very much factor into our future success
