There's a bit of selection bias in that assumption. Nowadays, big guys simply aren't as good as they used to be so you're going to have a smaller sample size to draw from since we don't have measurements from most past players.


We do have Shaq at 7'7, Mourning at 7'6.5, and Shawn Bradley at 7'5.

I'd bet guys like Russell, Wilt, Hakeem, Kareem, Moses, etc all had wingspans in that range as well. So it's not out of the question.


Even now, we have guys like Durant, Aldridge, Elton Brand, Brook Lopez, Anthony Davis, Larry Sanders, Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, JaVale, Drummond, and Haywood who are all in that 7'5"+ range that are capable NBA players

Adding to my previous post after a long nap. How about this? Move my skepitcism point from 7'5" to 7'7" wingspan. That's where they REALLY start to disappoint. (Pulling for Biyombo, though)

I really don't think you can make generalizations about a guy being a bust or not based on body type. Most of what determines if a player is a bust or not takes place between the ears. Ajinca was a bust, but the next guy that looks like that might not be. Drummond looked like a sure fire bust coming out but he is doing pretty good. Every one of these guys is like buying a lotto ticket, you might hit you might not.

Most of what i hear about Gobert says he doesn't look like an NBA player right now. Still wouldn't mind taking a chance on him though esp if we have multiple picks and he goes somewhere in the 10-20 range which is where I think he will end up.
