Gordon will Not be getting a contract with an annual salary of 13 million anytime soon so I think he we would have to be a fool not to pick up His option for next year. I expect him to be here next season and that's when I also expect us to start working on a trade involving him . With his ability to score in bunches and his 13 million expiring deal he would be a really big asset for a playoff team as a bench player.
Expiring deals are one of the best things u can have in this day in an age of the NBA when it comes to making deals . Teams will take expiring contracts of players with a lot less talent then Gordon in heartbeat , so if a team can get a player that can actually help their playoff run and also knock 13 million off of their salary cap then they are going to deal for him in a heartbeat
Having Diop's 7.5 mill expiring this year is a really big asset for us and should net us a really solid player or a draft pick. And this is for a guy who has 1 of the worst contracts in the NBA and who is an absolute bum . Having Gordon's 13 mill expiring next year is like having the golden ticket . We received Gordon and what will be a very high 1st round pick for sorry ass Maggette and with soo many teams in salary cap hell I fully expect Cho to get something really good in return for Gordon
I honestly don't see a team making a deal for Gordon and Tyrus bc that defeats the purpose of getting An expiring contract when u are adding Tyrus's contract as well ..even though I would love to unload Tyrus I just don't see it happening anytime soon. I don't think the front office traded for Gordon bc they see him as part of our long term plan ..it was just a way for Cho to have more flexibility going forward.
It is somewhat risky waiting until next year bc maybe the $$ isn't that important to him and he just wants to win . That is a risk we might just have to take if we want to get the most out of a trade for him ....but honestly Gordon doesn't strike me as a guy who would pass up that amount of $$ just to go to a playoff team ..especially when he can get the $$ and just wait another year and then have his choice of going wherever he wants ...maybe we could approach him and ask him what his plans are concerning his player option and go from there ..I'm sure the FO will make the right move and will get a good player or pick for him and won't just let him walk for nothing ..I'm pretty sure that was the whole plan when we initially traded for him ( renting him for a season and a half and then dealing him for another player and pick like we did with Maggette ) ..I have faith in Cho and look forward to seeing what happens with him but in the meantime hopefully he can help us win some basketball games
