I say we claim the "Bullets" name and try to steal their history. At least they won a Title!

Have the Thunder done anything to honor any Sonics history? Do they even mention it? I'm 100% sure if a team ever gets back to Seattle the Thunder would give them that history back no problem. The Thunder want no part of Payton and Kemp, the Pelicans want no part of Dell Curry and Muggsy Bogues.

Its just going to be stupid hearing Steve Martin explain when he says "Kidd-Gilchrist has just become the all time leader in blocks for the Charlotte Hornets, except not the whole history of the Charlotte Hornets, just from 2004 forward when they used to be the Bobcats and then switched to the Hornets!"

If we can't have the history, the name change is stupid and pointless imo unless MJ just does it as a cashgrab

edit: and I don't mean as much about the statisical/bookkeeping history even though like I said itd be awkward. We need to be able to make reference of those guys and embrace what they did here as part of our Hornets franchise even if its only in spirit and not official. IE having stuff up about them in the arena, jumbotron, ceremonies etc.

Then why put a timeline on the agreement? Why not just leave it there altogether?

Do you have any evidence to back this up or is it just an opinion?

That's a simple byproduct of having the same name for two different franchises. Nothing you can do about it other than not taking the name at all.

Or he could just say "Kidd-Gilchrist has just become the franchise leader in Blocks!" and avoid all confusion

So you just want their history because it's better than our history?

I don't want their history at all, I'd rather be the Bobcats. But if we can't embrace the history even if its only in spirit/pictures/ceremonies and not official bookkeeping its especially stupid. Whats the point? Thats like getting yourself a Super Nintendo out of nostalgia, but having no games. Yipee!

You're acting like I don't understand your position. Its pretty clear and simple that the bookkeeping has to be that way. I'm just saying its dumb.

Swedd, you get this though, right? Logically, of course they're different franchises and what you say makes complete rational sense. However, it's weird to think that memories of LJ/Zo would be tied to the Pelicans franchise. Obviously, that's all legal and our memories of good times aren't bound to that. If we became the Hornets and my daughter started asking me questions about the best Hornet players of all time, I'd surely reference the old squad too.

Legally, logically, this is cut and dry. But the spirit of this whole thing will be really weird.

Or to use SWedd's metaphor, your ex-girlfriend comes back, but she no longer has a vagina.

The Browns kept their history, although the situation is obviously a bit different as it was negotiated before the move. Like you said, an opinon but I think Benson is a reasonable person that would be down to negotiate for the Charlotte Hornets part of the Pelicans history, or at least us being allowed to use it. The last thing I want, if we do change, if a halfassed change where we'd always be referencing the Bobcats. If we're going to be the Hornets, lets fucking BE the Hornets. A solid, secure identity is what we need.

So basically if they rename the Bobcats to the Hornets, Then our beloved home team becomes the Chas Bono of the NBA?

Its more like getting back with your first love and yall just broke up due to a misunderstanding, the Bobcats have always been that rebound girl. The Flight however was that supermodel we could have upgraded to
