Then we really weren't disagreeing hombre. Maybe next time you state your position more clearly!
I'm all for honoring all time Charlotte Greats. Hell, I'm all for claiming the history because I would love to say Muggsy is the best PG in team history and not Felton.
I guess my biggest peeve is people wanting it just for the sake of being able to claim those guys to make our team look better.
As for it being pointless, I honestly don't think so. According to all these buzz guys, it was about the "movement" and "experience", Going back to Hornets with a fun team like the one we have should be enough to bring excitement.
I don't care about making our history look better, I just think if we're gonna do it, we shouldn't halfass it. If we're gonna be the Hornets I want to be the Hornets. If Benson won't sell the Hornets history to us, move on. I don't wanna be the Bobnets with some crappy redesigned logo and color scheme because we were too cheap to meet Bensons price for the history, or he refused to sell.

what about the bobcats historic ownage of the lakers? one of only 2 teams to have that.
can we keep that?
New article from Bonnell

A name change will only cost $3m that equals a pay back of 1 year with 1,000 new season ticket holders that avg. spending $73/gm. That doesn't include any incremental revenue from merchandise sales.
Easy decision from a pure revenue perspective.
I also told the team I will buy season tickets tomorrow if they can ensure a transparent market study on rebrand.

I don't think it's his to sell. My understanding is that the NBA owns both a team's name and it's intellectual property (including the history), then licenses it back to the team. The team only outright owns the tangible rewards of that history, e.g. trophies. So if Charlotte wanted the history, they'd have to deal with the NBA (and hope Benson doesn't put up a stink), but if it was the actual memorabilia, it would have to negotiate with Benson. I could be way off base though, so maybe somebody could do some digging and give us a more definitive answer.
It's funny, I told the team when I bought season tickets that I hoped they kept the name and really dug the color/uni changes. Wonder if folks like me spending money has any more value to the team than your ultimatum? I personally hope it does.
Also, there's a lot more in that article worth reading - namely that we, who are fans of the Bobcats name, are not in the super-minority that some like to make us out to be.

B-but Charlotte Observer polls!!
It could, which is why I'm considering buying season tickets again... I think that the team would be silly to make a decision based only on current customers ( who most likely would continue to be customers despite being disappointed over a name change).
If the Bobcats had widespread support that some of you claiming this wouldn't be an issue... 60% of 6- 8,000 season ticket holders isn't paying the bills.
Like I've said many times, if things were working and the majority of people in Charlotte were in love with the Bobcats brand, this topic wouldn't be a front page Story over and over again, this story has gone national, David Stern is commenting on it... If it wasnt a huge deal, Michael Jordan wouldn't say "it's definitely an interest".
You guys can try to discount it all you want, but it's no doubt a serious issue.
