Default Hornets to change name 2013-2014 season

Well that doesn't make much logical sense for those fans. The "them" that betrayed us are in New Orleans. Jordan didn't betray us.

They're suddenly not going to like Kemba, MKG, and the gang anymore? The team is still here and committed to Charlotte, so after all those years of support, they'll abandon the team and pretend they don't exist anymore?

It's like getting fired from work then coming home and kicking the dog. Fluffy didn't betray you, he was still there for you.

To be fair, it's similar logic to the MANY that will not support the Bobcats because it may or may not be named after a PREVIOUS owner.

Yep, seems hypocritical to say "How dare you not support the team because of the name"

when, um, many were doing that before.

I agree with yall; I think we all agree here that anyone that doesn't support the team because of a name has problems.

But it goes back in circles - if those fans think its dumb that people don't cheer because its not the Hornets, then they are just as bad if they drop the team because its not the Bobcats. You can't be mad at someone for doing something, but then in turn go and do it yourself.

    Douchebags, all of them.

I really don't even care that much about this. I want the Hornets back but not because I think the arena will then become magically packed with screaming fans. I just love the colors and would spend much more on merchandise if if was Hornets.

I'm "eh" about the whole thing. I've got a bobcats tattoo and cool bobcats stuff... but what I am thinking about this... they said it'll cost a few million bucks to change everything... there is a way for the NBA to make sure MJ gets that money back (via ticket sales etc) while showing some amazing good will towards our city. Give us the 2015 NBA All Star Game. Certainly the ticket sales and merch sales will line MJ's pockets, not to mention the financial influx to the city.

MJ should make this deal with the NBA -> We change the name if we get the All Star Game.

    Make this happen
What to do, what to do...

Tattoo- I was actually think about you yesterday when Whitfield made his announcement!

Ive always been surprised that Charlotte didn't put that into the arena agreement when they first agreed with the NBA to build the arena... Maybe they asked for it and Stern told them no.

I'd love to see another All -Star game in Charlotte.. I was in the 6th grade that year and had perfect attendance so I could attend the "Stay in School" Jam!

I've roared when the Bobcats made the playoffs.
I slumped and felt depressed when the Bobcats got swept in the post season
I cheered when we nabbed MKG from the draft
I facepalmed when we grabbed Ammo from the draft
I became a fan when Bobcats beat Lakers in triple OT

See a trend? I wasn't around when the Hornets era was happening. But no doubt on this board especially we have a strong core of dudes who've been there, seen it all and done it all. So for them, I wouldn't mind one bit if the Bobcats change to the Hornets. If we don't, I really don't care.
Regardless, I'll still cheer for them.

This post, is totally about me and not about the Bobcats name change whatsoever.

I moved from Brooklyn NY to charlotte in 1997. I was here for the end of the Hornets era. When I lived in NY I saw how the city supported the hornets. When I actually moved here and started attending games in the late 90's early 2000's the fan support was disappearing. I can remember going to games prior to all of the relocation talk and there were a lot of empty seats. People seem to forget that people didn't support the NBA when we had the hornets. The hornets became a lame duck team in this city, I don't want to hear the we hated George Shinn crap. That was just an excuse not to attend games, then it got worse when the relocation talks began. Changing the name back it this point makes no sense, my son is 11 my daughter is 6 and they love the Bobcats. I say just leave the name alone, the bobcats have been in existence for 9 years now. There's a new generation of fans out there now, all we need to do is start winning and this team will be fine.
