Well im new to the Bobcats, but know the Hornets very well.
To me, this franchise is the Bobcats, always will be. Im not going to stop being interested if it becomes the Hornets again. But to me, it isnt getting the name back. Its taking a name from another team.
Also, may not seem important to you guys, but the people i talk to love the Bobcats (not to laugh at either). People are willing them to do better. Change the name to the Hornets, those same people may not be so fond due to old feelings. Might not bother alot of you, but what about the silent opinions. Isnt it always the way that people wanting change are always a damn site louder than those that dont, even when outnumbered
Pizzy- There are definately people that share your opinion.
I assume this will be resolved quickly after the season ends next month. (atleast before the draft)
No other team owns the name anymore. It is a free agent, so no it isn't taking a name from another team. Its been discussed a million ways from Sunday, but the Hornets name originated here, and it would most definitely be considered "getting it back" Thats just facts.
Your last points don't make any sense to me either. "What about the silent opinions"... who gives a hell what the silent opinions are. They aren't buying tickets either way. Silent opinions don't buy merchandise, and they don't fill arenas. Also, no one is going to start booing the Hornets if the name is changed... thats just a silly notion. No matter yours or my personal opinions on the name change, the fact of the matter is that it can only have positive effects.
Yeah. I got to thinking 'Why haven't we heard anything yet?' but then I realized they won't announce the outcome before the end of the season so as to still be able to sell Bobcats merchandise at retail and not at slashed prices which would occur if the name is indeed changed and before the season is over.
What do you think though, has the decision been made one way or the other, or is MJ still wrangling over it?
"The Charlotte Hornets name has been a mainstay throughout the region for many years, and we are excited to announce our intention to re-establish this historic brand. We believe that its return will galvanize our fan base by unifying our loyal Bobcats fans with those who have strong memories of our city's NBA predecessor." MJ, 5-21-13
