Obviously we're not a storied franchise like the lakers. But there's always talk of the many great lakers centers. The magic/Kobe debate on who's was the better laker.

If we have a couple more good drafts and have a really up and coming team. Should we not compare them to the hornets with lj and Alonzo? Two different franchises

Not being an ass here but, that doesn't matter to me. Even when we drafted Emeka people were trying to compare him to Zo and Thomas Robinson was compared to LJ this draft. MKG compared to Wallace. Does Byron Mullens remind you of Brad Miller?

See we can have those debates still, no matter what the name of the team is people will compare players to both Bobcats and Hornets.

The game last night Steve Martin compared Ben Gordon to Dell Curry. Name change or not, those debate will still take place.

It's simple, I thought in New Orleans they're always cheering for "cans"

    "Let's go Cans!"

    "We love Cans!!"

    "Show us your Cans!!!"

The history thing is gonna be a complete clusterfuck. If we are allowed to take back the Hornets history (or just the Charlotte part even) I'm sure almost every Bobcats record is erased from the books. If we take that part, what happens to the Pelicans recordbook? Wiped clean except the NO Hornets part? WHen Okafor comes to town is he still referred to as the teams first ever draft pick?

I'd imagine Tom Benson could be a complete dick and not let us have any history which means, no Muggsy/LJ/Zo/Dell highlights on opening night or around the arena, just the name?

    Should be interesting

Anybody think we're going back to the CHA Hornets next year?

As far as history, the NO franchise is more entitled to the history than we are. They are the original Hornets team. We are getting the name for nostalgia and marketing purposes. As far as records, draft history, etc. asterisks would be used to make indications. Our history starts in 2003. We can share the Charlotte Hornets history with NO. But they are entitled to the history.

sent from the pseudo GM offices of the Charlotte Hornets

I'm still failing to see any reason why we should be able to claim records from another franchise. It wouldn't make him a dick if he didn't give us that history because it doesn't belong to us.

What happens when the Kings move to Seattle and take the Sonics name? Do they get to claim the Kemp/Payton era? Of course not

iirc part of the negotiations were that Seattle gets to keep their history if they get a team back in X number of years (cant remember the number).

They didn't negotiate that in Charlotte but the reasoning is still there.

so now Gerald Wallace would be the leading scorer in "Charlotte Bobcats/newHornets" history?

We have the name but we can't honor Muggsy/Dell/LJ etc at games and revisit the history (which is the only reason anyone wants the name...) Dells achievements belong more to the Pelicans than the Charlotte Hornets?

Everything just becomes incredibly awkward. I doubt the Pelicans are going to want to attach themselves to Charlotte Hornets history either anyway.

That was the case, but they missed the deadline. Any new Seattle team would have to start over fresh or roll over the history from wherever they moved from (Sacramento).

They didn't negotiate that in Charlotte but the reasoning is still there.
If they didn't then why would the reasoning be there? If we had a claim to the "Charlotte" part of the history then they would've raised that argument in 2004 instead of 2012. We're about a decade too late to start clamoring about "but they played in Charlotte!"

so now Gerald Wallace would be the leading scorer in "Charlotte Bobcats/newHornets" history?
Well yeah, I don't know why he wouldn't? Our records would just stay the same. (Not trying to be sarcastic or disparage you)

Sure we can honor them as "Charlotte Greats" but we shouldn't be able to claim them as our players. They never played for Shinn or MJ. Hell, they played AGAINST Jordan.

Dells achievements belong more to the Pelicans than the Charlotte Hornets?
Again, yes. I don't see how it could be argued any other way. The name is inconsequential.

Everything just becomes incredibly awkward. I doubt the Pelicans are going to want to attach themselves to Charlotte Hornets history either anyway.
So they're going to just say, "Let's erase the first 14 years of our existence!" I doubt that.
