Default Should We Go After Pau Gasol?

He would be a big we def need and could help us get in the playoffs aswell.

we send: Mullens,Diop,And Tyrus and we get back Gasol.

Lakers might do this we send 2 expires and they could dump Tyrus's contract if they want.

    our new lineup
    PG:Kemba/Sessons
    SG:Jeff Taylor/Gordon/Henderson
    SF:MKG/Reggie Williams
    PF:Gasol/Warrick
    C:Haywood/Biz

Pau's 32..Not really interested, we're not making a playoff push anytime soon, we're still rebuilding. Would rather keep Mullens, he's got potential.

I don't really think the Lakers would care about expiring contracts. They're absurdly over the salary cap already, and that will only increase when/if they sign Dwight Howard to a new deal this offseason. Expirings really only have value if it helps you clear salary cap space to sign free agents outright (and they're so far over the cap that our entire roster could be expiring and it wouldn't help them), or if your owner is super cheap and just wants to save money (clearly not Buss). Of course, this is the NBA where teams $40 million over the cap still magically get the marquee free agents because lopsided sign & trade deals are allowed, so who knows.

This also ignores the fact that they think they can realistically win a championship this year, and that deal does not make them better this year.

Being over the cap is more than just the money; it also restricts what you can do personnel wise. I don't know that LAL would do the above (nor am I pro for the move)...just figured I'd throw that caveat out there.

Yeah, it's definitely more complicated than I'm making out. For instance, there's being over the cap, then there's being over the luxury tax threshold, the point at which being over the cap suddenly becomes real expensive. The number and type of free agent signing exceptions you're entitled to is also affected by how much you're over the cap. So yeah, I could envision several scenarios in which it would be to the Lakers benefit to still be over the cap, but not that much over the cap. I just don't think the benefits would outweigh losing Gasol.

Doesn't make sense for us to go after Gasol. Love the guy, but, as others have stated, his going down hill while we're growing and young. Makes little sense to trade Mullens just to rent Gasol and get little out of it.

Gasol skill set is on the decline. They would want draft picks also. I dont think he will bring enough to this team to make them better either. Bobcats need toughness (and a new marketing team among other things).
