I'm not opposed to the name change, but I'm not signing. We've had endless debates on this issue, and they're irrelevant both ways. To be honest, the petition is pointless. Jordan knows there's interest for a name change. If will in all likelihood happen, and that's fine. But for those wanting to erase our past, a name change isn't going to do it. Gerald Wallace will still be our leading scorer, not Dell Curry. Bob Johnson will still have been our original owner. With that said, if the name change ensures the future of the franchise in Charlotte, I'm for it.

It's going to take the Bobcats 5 years of success (and maybe even more) to get the title of being terrible away.

This doesn't only go into wins and losses, we are also terrible at drafting. We've drafted a lot more garbage players than decent & good players.

But that's not to say that we can't turn it around. I'm most certain we can change people's perspective on us.
Pretty much nothing you have said here will or even can change with something as superfluous as rebranding. Having lived/worked through the USAir -> US Airways change, I can tell you that none of that changed the fundamental problems with that company, I seriously doubt that any change from Cats -> Hornets will either. If it's improving (which I think the Cats are) then it's already begun and the name is fluff (and several millions paid into said fluff).

If they change the name, I'll still love my hometown team - that will never change. But they surely don't need to change the name to appeal to me.

I won't sign no petition. I've been a fan since the Hornets' days, and when they decided to pack up & move to New Orleans, excuse my French but I said "fuck 'em". I'm proud of what we created with the Bobcats franchise, and I hope it continue. Switching back to the Hornets won't stop the laughs of the haters, it will only make the laughter louder because it will seem as if we're running from who we are. I'm totally against changing the moniker back to the Hornets.

I'm a new Bobcats fan due to MKG and was a NJ Nets fan before they balked to Brooklyn on us so I'm not so familiar with the Charlotte air. But I did some research and it stated that the Hornets organization went into a free fall in attendance with George Shinn's ownership despite being playoff contenders during those years before the Bobcats were even thought of. I doubt that a name change will ignite any extra interest into the franchise, just make some of the bitter and defunct Charlotte Hornets fans slightly happier. The hype machine of a prime Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson are not returning to the floor as players in a Hornets uniform to excite them back into #1 in attendance again unless they find a fountain of youth and they can regenerate the buzz they had coming out of college again. Andrew Wiggins might do the trick but that's foresight and luck. I think that people of Charlotte should honor the fact that Robert Johnson was intrigued enough to put a franchise back in the city when the Hornets abandoned them enough to keep the Bobcats name going. I might have said too much but hopefully I got my point across to those who think logically.

Today the Cats sent out a survey to their Season Ticket Holders. There were probably 70 different things they asked about, from on-court performance, to concessions, STH benefits, ticket prices, etc....no mention of a re-branding (since they just did it), no mention of a potential name change.

Why hasn't MJ put the nail in the coffin on the "hornets" brand? Same reason as a player & shoe icon that he never took a stand on gun-control, politics, etc. He's always respond...Republicans and Democrats both buy my shoes. Pro-gun and Anti-gun people buy my shoes.

    Go Cats
