The twits chanting the "Let's Go Hor-Nets" in the fourth of tonight's game really show their class. Down 30 and "Let's Go Hor-Nets" - stay classy San Diego. Geez

QUOTE=ND22;232108]Its still a direct association. He named the team. He was wise with his choice as he considered Charlotte's history, but that doesn't exclude the fact he was still directly involved with the Hornets name, the franchise, and its demise in Charlotte. If not for George Shinn, we aren't talking about a name change.[/QUOTE]As crappy as George Shinn may have been in the end, if it wasn't for George Shinn and his dedicated efforts Charlotte may never have been considered for a pro sports franchise. No Hornets may have meant no Panthers.

That is not me supporting Shinn and the way he did things in the end but it is me giving credit where credit is due.

Some may want to discredit Shinn's contribution to making Charlotte and North Carolina a place that pro sports teams wanted to come to but I read most of the pro basketball articles and sports articles in general prior to the first NBA season in Charlotte and George Shinn was very much credited with bringing the NBA to Charlotte.

Regardless of how Shinn ultimately did things in the end he still marketed the original NBA team in your city and state very well. The image and name was popular with more than just the people of Charlotte and North Carolina in general. The name, colors and image made quite of bit of money for the organization.

Some would say that if the Bobcats were a top team that the current brand would sell well and more people would show up to the games. I recall that for a time, "before Shinn pulled his shit" the team still did well in attendance and sold quite a bit of team merchandise when the team was not relevant.

Folks it is neither here nor there because while I am quite alright with the name Bobcats and the current image of the team. The fact though is that there is a lot of people wanting to bring Hornets back to Charlotte. Also the fact is that Cam Newton does not wear the old Charlotte Hornets hat by mistake. It shows that even among other athletes and famous people the colors, logo and name are their preferred choice.

New Orleans will no doubt get a new image, colors and name soon and to let the Hornets name and original image from it's Charlotte years pass without trying to bring it back would be stupid.

Right now I am a Charlotte BOBCATS fan and I will always be one as long as that is what the team is called but should the name Hornets and the original colors and image of the old team become available you can bet I am all for the return of said name and looks.

My screen name should show you I will support the team no matter what that team should be called or what it looks like. Still yet I support the return of the name and looks that originated with the city of Charlotte and I do not apologize for such.

In the mean time, GO BOBCATS!!!!

Stern has said that the Hornets have not officially requested a name change so the Bobcats have no reason to address a name that still technically isn't available. If New Orleans does go through with it, I still wouldn't expect any news on our end before at least the all-star break.

I was at the game where Cam wore the Hornets hat and he got a bigger cheer than the Bobcats did. I pull for the Bobcats just like all of you, because they're Charlotte's team. But if the name is on the table, you HAVE to get it back.

Anyone who thinks Hornets is "just a name" doesn't get it, and never will. So the arguing is pointless.

If the name if so special why is New Orleans getting rid of it?

Once New Orleans gets rid of the Hornets name that's it. Its gone forever. Just a memory. There'll never be another LJ. There'll never be another Zo. There'll never be another Mugsy. You cant duplicate those guys or that time period. Next year the Hornets wont be in the NBA anymore, and next year the Bobcats will be celebrating their 10th anniversary. A couple more years we'll have been here longer than the Hornets. Charlotte is Bobcat Country, nothing's gonna change.

    Is this a serious question?

    Yes.

If the name is so "special" why is New Orleans getting rid of it? Utah didnt get rid of the Jazz although there's nothing Jazzy about Salt Lake. If the name is so great why is NO dying to get the stinch off of them?
