"The owners are fighting for a system that will help save them from bad general managers and poor basketball decisions." --Kurt Helin via spectre

So lets see...
In the last week, we have had former Bobcat Raymond Felton say.
"Everybody knows the Charlotte Hornets, Bringing back that name would help a little bit in bringing back those fans that they lost."
We have a current Golden State Warrior and Charlottean Steph Curry say:
"I'm sure they should bring it back, winning takes care of alot of different things, but the name would definately help out"
and today the Mayor of our great city Anthony Foxx had this to say:
"He looks forward to people coming uptown to watch the Charlotte Hornets"

The Mayor of Charlotte...
He's kind of a big deal in Charlotte where the team plays....
I guess your right, he's a nobody, His opinion is not significant- we should totally discount what he has to say.
I can quote myself if you would like as I will be buying season tickets for our Charlotte Hornets.
" I agree with Mayor Foxx and look forward to people including myself buying season tickets to watch the Charlotte Hornets"
CampNightmare8 (12-11-2012)
And the five of them should definitely have their opinion heard. But when the Hornets name is much more popular in Charlotte than Bobcats, and it's getting coverage on ESPN and Yahoo, and current/past NBA players are wanting Hornets...it's hard to ignore it. Hard to say Hornets is "just a name" that has no significance to the city of Charlotte or the state of North Carolina.
And for what it's worth, I pay to see the Bobcats frequently. I'm going again Saturday night. So...yeah.

Really not sure where the overly dramatic vitriol comes from but I know it's one sided (and not coming from me).
The Mayor of Charlotte is a man I have a lot of respect for and think highly of. To contort my statement into a lack of respect for him (or his office) or to paint my comments to suggest he's a man of little or no significance is more than a stretch - it comes across as pure snark. His opinion of what the team name or mascot or colors should be is however entirely irrelevant to all parties involved. Similarly, Mayor McCrory had ZERO idea of what the name was going to be right up until the moment the name was unveiled. Good men, respected men, men with a lot of pressure on them? Yes - across the board. Men w/ any advanced knowledge of team names will be or have more insight than any of us? Not a bit. Men that pay for tickets, somewhat improbable - but if they do, that's awesome.
Irrespective of that, what "my" point was.... you coincidentally picked people that "either don't pay for tickets or have no reason to."
I'll say that at this point, your snippy comments have made me sour on your ability to have the "good debate" you have said you want. I have found you repeatedly come back overly aggressive to people (not just me) that point out some genuine flaws in your logic. This might not be an example of that but it is an example where your rebuke is not in proportion to what has been said. And me or anyone else not agreeing with your stance is not provocation.
I am done w/ this conversation. I like the Bobcats - they are our home team.
LOL- speaking of overly dramatic.
I responded very nicely to you in post #96, where I provided stats, facts and counters to your points, you choose to ignore responding until you could take a stab at why you though direct quotes from important pieces of Charlotte and Charlotte basketball history weren't of value because they didn't buy tickets.
Forgive me if I dont find the opinions of
A. The #2 draft pick in Bobcats History
B. Charlotte's native son who is an absolute star in this city
C. The Mayor of Charlotte
"funny"
Why would the mayor not have any reason to buy tickets?
As to your last sentence, I agree 100%
I like the Bobcats- they are our home team.
