Basically what I'm getting out of all this is that most people are in "wait and see" mode for a young Kemba and think he could improve. Two others are saying that the best Kemba can become is an average to decent bench guy. Am I reading this right?

two others are saying he could easily be a james harden, jason terry or manu type all-star player.

This is the first I have seen Harden and Manu come up. And to be fair, I consider those two to be WAAAAAAAAY better than Terry.

No, and this is where some of the confusion is coming from. I think that Kemba and MKG are keepers, the team badly needs more scoring, and if they DO get that extra scoring they should take a page out of Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich's game plans and bring one of their best players off the bench to start the game, and then play him like a starter the rest of the way out. Unfortunately, some posters only saw "Kemba Walker" and "bench".

You do realize that this argument is always brought up when someone CRITICIZES Kemba, right? Not the other way around. For instance, this thread began in the BB thread because someone said that he is a poor distributor...and you exacerbated the argument (lol).

i am all for the debate as long as it goes in a linear fashion. any argument that gets in a circular pattern becomes useless.

there aren't any nor should be any debates that are closed and that is why we all post to this board and not others.

See that's the problem. I think Bogg said he might be better suited for a reserve role because/if he doesn't/won't have the distributing talents necessary to be an elite lead guard. And the response seems to be that it means he sucks and should be stuck on the end of the bench. I've even had you "attack" me for making a similar statement in the past. What needs to be understood by those seemingly showering in the Kemba Kool Aid is that it's possible to be an all-star or elite player with a backup role.


I repeat for clarity. Saying Kemba might not become a top 10 starting PG does NOT mean he's "an average or decent bench guy"

Because there are only so many shots to go around, and if you stagger guys' minutes at the start of the game you can turn that end-of-the-first/start-of-the-second quarter from a slow part of the game into one of the teams' strong points, where they extend a lead or make up a deficit. I mean, this isn't a new concept: Lamar Odom came off the bench for the likes of Vlad Rad and Trevor Ariza when the Lakers were in the Finals, Manu came off the bench for the Spurs when they were winning championships, Terry came of the bench for the Mavs when they won a title, and Harden came off the bench for the Thunder last year. "Starting five" doesn't necessarily mean your five best players, and it can be detrimental at times to have it that way. If Charlotte had two other 20+ppg scorers in the starting lineup and MKG doing his utility guy thing kicking in around 15, you're wasting offensive ability by matching up Kemba's minutes with those guys. It's not criticism of Kemba, it's a discussion of strategy.
