You absolutely cannot lump him in with Kevin McHale and Bill Walton. I guess you just googled sixth man award and saw that they won it... but Kevin McHale was sixth man because he had Larry Freaking Bird and Cornbread Maxwell starting in front of him at the Celtics big man positions. And Walton won his sixth man behind McHale and Robert Freaking Parish. In case you weren't aware, the Bobcats do not have 2 ALL TIME GREATEST PLAYERS EVER playing our guard position. Also, you really can't factually say that Kemba is a great sixth man, but I can say Kemba is a starter in this league... you know why... because HE IS a starter in this league and he's doing quite well.

You're completely missing the point! "Starter" is a meaningless term that only matters to gloryhounds and soccer moms. People are so hung up on hearing their favorite players' name called during introductions they're willing to dismiss a proven championship strategy unless it's not "their kid". Better players than Kemba have played starters' minutes off the bench because it was a winning game plan. McHale was out-producing Maxwell handily, and playing more minutes, but came off the bench because his defensive versatility allowed Boston to respond to any lineup. Some guys posses talents that make them uniquely well-suited to that role, and it in no way means they'd be a bad starter.

What has that got to do anything since we've already determined that projections are foolish at this stage anyway?

    C'mon you've been doing great...don't backslide now!

I'm not going to allow it to be presented as though I said he wasn't looking like he'll be good enough to start. The difference between a run of the mill sixth man and the role I described is enormous.

At any rate, you should go tell people to cool it in the Biz and MKG threads, they're projecting left and right in there.

Why not? You didn't have a problem trying to portray everyone as mega Kemba homers.

So far as Biz & MKG we had the worst winning % in NBA history last season and was pretty much the butt of the league. If Bobcats' fans feel they have any reason to be optimistic after that horrendous season don't you think they deserve it just a little bit?

Being a fan of a storied franchise like the Celtics I can understand how that might not relate to you but maybe if you think about it really hard you can grasp what I'm talking about.

Because it's flat-out incorrect. I've spent 80% of this thread correcting people who either didn't understand what I wrote, didn't read what I wrote, or were just making things up because it's easier to argue against a position you make up. I'm not going to just ignore claims that are demonstrably wrong.

Not everyone. Just the people who refused to view terms like "needs to improve" and "sixth man" in the context that they were used.

You just said yourself that projecting young guys was pointless bullshit that shouldn't be done because it's impossible to prove what's going to happen in the future.

Unless it's just projections you don't like that have no business being made.

I watched just about every game of the 24-win season and was in the FleetCenter to see the likes of Vin Baker and Jiri Welsch play in person. I know exactly what it's like to follow an under performing lottery team with only one or two worthwhile players. I also know what it looks like when a fan base starts soccer-momming likable youngsters because I was posting for "Gerald Green = TMac" and Al Jefferson for Kevin Garnett being "an ill-advised mortgaging of the future".

Well as you know we're kind of slow down here. I blame all the inbreeding.

Oh no doubt a 24 win season along with a history of championships and a star on the current roster is just like 7 wins with multiple blowouts, no players looking better than Euro League fodder and our history.

    What was I thinking!
