Default Bobcats to chase Carlos Boozer?

This isn't exactly a trade, so didn't want to put it in the trade section of BCP but if the mods want to I understand. So I have read it numeraous places that Carlos Boozer is going to get amnestied, especially after Taj Gibson's extension.

"Carlos Boozer in 2014. The decision has become even clearer now, though the TaJ Gibson extension could push the timeline up a little bit if the Bulls are feeling the pressure financially next summer. However, Boozer’s last year comes the same year that Luol Deng becomes a free agent, so a proactive Bulls team could make some FA/trade noise since they have less money on the books."

So would he fill a need for the Bobcats? Low post scoring and a good rebounder? I know he never lived up to his contract in Chicago and he is a lousy defender but he would give us something that our team seriously needs, also we are going to have money to spend this offseason.

If he were to get amnestyed, it would be in the summer of 2014, not this coming summer. It all depends on who's on the roster and how much ability he has left, because I suspect the Bobcats are going to look much different in a year and a half than they do now.

Sure Boozer for 4,5 mill a year (this is what the amnestied Scola makes at Phoenix) would be a nice addition. It could actually work well for us, the signing that is, only teams below the cap can sign players on the amnesty wire, and every team below the cap is set on the PF position...

Going in a different direction with all this, I've wondered how much Chicago would give up to swap Boozer for Ben Gordon this coming summer, whose contract lines up nicely with Loul Deng's(they both expire after next year). If Charlotte could get their first rounder from the Tyrus Thomas trade back and the Euro forward that Chicago seems to be very high on, I'd think about it.

Good hypothesis. I think this is the direction that it should go in. The Bulls have been desperately trying to fulfill Ben Gordon's void at SG since his departure going on 4 years to no avail. Instead of amnestying Carlos Boozer, it would make perfect sense to trade him for the guy they let go to inevitably sign him. The only question mark in this deal if you ask me is if the Bulls front office isn't still bitter from the negotiations. I've read that bridges were burnt during the summer Gordon left. Hopefully that was all hearsay, but compromises can be made.

I think that the hope is that saving $18 million, combined with the fact that they just paid Taj Gibson and may want to give him a one-year tryout as a starter, would repair any damaged relations between the two. You'd have to sell Jordan on spending more money to acquire picks/prospects, but Boozer would also help the team some with scoring and rebounding, their biggest problems so far this season.

Only way I consider trading Gordon for Boozer is under the assumption we get our First back. That pick is the beginning and end of any deal regarding Boozer

as i said in the trade forum, i am inclined to let a mistake go and not compound it with another. the pick won't be realized until at least 2 drafts from now and hopefully (if we rebuild correctly) will be a later lottery or non-lottery pick. my big concern with boozer is that he will improve us too much. i wouldn't want him to knock us down a few slots in consecutive lotteries when the difference between the most chances and the 5th most is sometimes less than 10 games.

I love Boozer man, hope we get him. Then he will change his name from Cboozthebull to Cboozthebobcat!

Definitely something to consider but I think our first back and Boozer on a one-year shorter deal is better value than Tyrus + whatever
