Well, while Mully may be pretty bad defensively so far, I think you may be underestimating how bad like-sized perimeter bigs are on defense. These faces have haunted their fans for years.

    Andrea
    Charlie V
    Hedo
    Vladimir
    Channing
    Novak
    Daye
    Super Cool Beas

There are quite a few other unconscionably bad defensive players at guard and forward that are easily forgettable, we just see Mully's inabilities on a daily basis.

The one thing I will give him over these other turnstiles, to me it looks like Mullens actually tries on defense. He gets his hands on balls, he attempts to get into position. He just doesn't have the natural instincts and strength to be more effective.

I actually appreciate the effort lol. got a good laugh out of it this morning - but other than Bargnani and Frye, not a single one of those guys has been tasked with defending the interior (Hedo is simply below average, Vlad and Beas know what they need to do in order to not get routinely exposed on the defensive end and targeted, Daye is the SF version of McGee..). On top of that, both of those guys are self aware to the point where they actually realize how terrible they are and they don't succumb to regularly committing the terrible fouls OR lapsing into a bipolar disorder that prevents their teammates from ever having a clue as to where they are on the court.

We got Mully for a 2nd round pick. From the 1st day hes been here, we seen change in his game. He plays better D. Tries from time to time to post up. Hes becoming comforable his self. He has shown improvements which is all I want from each and every one of these players.

But do you want to pay him?

As is, I'm glad that we got a decent trade piece to lure a team that's dumber than us into taking him. The guy has all the tools you need to be successful but mentally he's shakier than DJ. Between that pathetic swing-thru move that he attempts every game which highlights and summarizes his ridiculous approach to basketball and his "I don't want to play bad defense and get pulled - so I'll run away from the guy I'm supposed to help on! That way, coach can't see me suck!" attitude that dismantles our defense every single night, I'm done.

Let some other team pay him a Tyrus contract and spend 3 years pulling his head out of his butt before giving up on him. We got a bunch of guys that actually work hard and don't run from challenges (or act like babies every time they get pushed a little too hard). I'd rather focus on them.

He is Charlotte's scapegoat for a reason. His demeanor, physical appearance, tentative body language, awkward and limited athleticism naturally make him an unlikable NBA player...he is the anti-Scalabrini. He does not appear confident or look like he knows completely what he is doing. However: he puts up numbers, produces, and has a positive effect on the offense as a legit scoring threat beyond the arc as well as being greatly improved rebounder. Kenny Smith mentioned he is a legit contender for NBA's most improved award. I'll let his season averages in points and rebounds speak for themselves.

Charlotte loved him when he first showed up. Mullens mafia, 7ft of smooth, etc - the thing is, he's one of those guys that finds a way to be one of the worst guys on the court despite what his numbers would have you believe. He averages nearly 8 boards and gets tossed around the paint letting guys half his size gets easy buckets. He's supposedly a good shooter, but every team in the league is has learned to let him have the shot because he's so eager to let a terrible shot fly. He's got all the athleticism you'd ever want in a 7 footer not named Dwight, but he can't get around bums like Glen Davis, Hawes, Seraphin, etc.

And Kenny Smith said we were playoff team before we went 3-18.

Byron's not even the most improved on his own team.

Mullens is OK. He's not terrible, he's not good enough to be blamed for the team being bad. There's no reason to lament him being on the squad, but I wouldn't want to get stuck paying a bootleg Andrea Bargnani 9-10 million a year.

I wouldnt want to pay him that either. If hes expecting that much, we might as well trade him for picks. But as of right now, I just want to see progress out of him. If we can sign him for a reasonable deal, then I can really see him as part of the future.
