How would you explain Switzerland bing?

Second highest gun proliferated nation in the world yet has one of the lowest murder rates in the world. Same goes for places like Finland, Sweden, and others.

Also keep in mind the vast majority of gun related deaths in America are suicide or negligence.

Resolved then; there is absolutely nothing that can be done to protect our children from gun-wielding psychos walking into schools and firing away - other than assigning fire arms to teachers I guess. I'm down with that.

I can recall a few of my HS teachers who were likely unstable enough that they might have taken out some of the more violently insane students in my class.

Though it might be somewhat simpler to just add security guards specifically trained to spot and take down young adult males in black trench coats. That would probably help.

Only if they're otherwise legally qualified. I don't want a Glock issued to every teacher as part of signing a contact, but I can see the benefits as long as they're trained, proficient, and knowledgeable. Parents trust schools with the safety of their children for upwards of 8 hours every day. Sick criminals see those gun free zones as easy prey.

How would you explain Switzerland bing?

Well, Switzerland is an odd bird. I have an uncle who has been living there for nearly 20 years and according to him, it's as if you're not dealing with the Homo sapiens, they're a different breed possessed of a different and unique mentality. Besides, their gun politics are wonky (since they have no standing army) which, together with the aforementioned and the fact that not everyone can carry a firearm in public, makes for a peculiar example that doesn't lend itself easily to comparison.

Just because it works there does not necessarily mean it would work elsewhere.

We have a security officer at my high school and nobody ever got shot despite some bad fights and such. A gun isn't some mystical object that possesses you and turns you into a bloodthirsty criminal. And its not a definite matter of ”when” it will be used to kill someone

- there are thousands of schools, hence, thousands of security guards; your experience accounts for one of them, which is insufficient

- I never said that carrying a firearm would make them go berserk, I merely stated that errors in judgements and accidents involving guns would become more likely (again, it's a matter of math, not something one can refute)
