I was trying to keep emotion out of the debate and argue rationally and logically on certain points that I think get mischaracterized, whether on purpose or accidentally. I know I wrote a mini-novel a page back or so, and I don't expect anyone to tackle it in one sitting, but I honestly would like to hear some further discussion, even if its only a point here or there.

The main reason I'm concerned is because I'm all for people enjoying their freedoms, but I also feel that there is a huge growing problem that may not have existed in previous decades, but is a reality now and can't be brushed under the rug or accepted as just a part of life in the US. I'm not saying we'll solve the problems here, but any positive dialogue started anywhere can grow and spread out to affect some kind of positive change, even if it is small scale.

So instead of getting sucked back into further bickerings, lets try to continue at a logical, more enlightened level, if anyone's still game.
just to respond to your wanting the news reports

Ya'll sound like a bunch of cry babies. And you do it every time BCP has a thread like this. You can't stand on your own ten toes and argue your point so you run away or claim your to good for the discussion. But then say stupid shit like Charlton Heston quotes but I'm the one dragging this discussion into the ground? I've been here long enough I know what to expect from you folk but I find this cowardly. People pretend to be above this kinda talk But can't debate with me or anyone else or defend your nonsense and you know it.
And yes, Rambo Swedd, I did "win" but it doesn't matter. I had no intention to call out any particular poster or comment. I honestly like you and Chef as posters but your arguments on this subject make no sense and have nothing to do with whats actually happening in real life. No one is trying to take away your gun or your right to own or carry one. The argument in congress right now is mainly about assault weapons, magazine size, background checks, universal registry and mental health checks. Anything outside of that either isnt true, gun nut propaganda or willful ignorance on the topic.

But I'm done, I'll wait for the next thread to derail. Ya'll can have your gun debate back now. I just wish we could focus on more important things like sword fighting or learning to kill people with the one inch punch instead

i would like to own an ar-15 with a 40 round mag. i would like to keep my ownership private and refuse to accept a license for a god given right. so as long as none of those things are infringed upon, then you are right, no one is trying to take anything away from me.

This is exactly what makes it easy for criminals who technically aren't allowed to purchase guns to obtain weapons. Just know that you're arming criminals with that stance.

That's a cop-out. If you're too scared to do anything that makes it harder for them to get guns, then they'll certainly continue getting them easily. If you make it difficult for guns to disappear once they've left the manufacturer, then suddenly it's a lot harder for every 15-year-old on a street corner to have a pistol.

drugs are pretty hard to get a hold of for law abiding citizens. criminals sure don't have a tough time.

You seem to have forgot the mental health check part and if you think its a God given right to own a gun you might need one. And by the way law abiding citizens are the main ones using drugs thats why they dont have a problem finding them. Ya'll really have to update your talking points

well you might find resistance from mental health practitioners when you request all mental health records, consults and prescriptions enter a federal database that can be accessed by nearly anyone. and it is a god given right to bear arms. arms meaning whatever i need to protect my life, if you argue that, than i suggest you move to a different country. i am not talking about getting a prescription from a doctor, i am talking about all of the "illegal" drugs that are responsible for the vast majority of the murders are you trying to prevent by taking away guns from me.

your ignorance of our constitution and YOUR god given rights are startling. i hope you are merely entertaining yourself by baiting me into discussion.
