Just asked Steve Kyler about this and he replied!

Steve Kyler ‏@stevekylerNBA RT @jamesplowright: --> Bobcats keep saying Gerald Henderson in their plans... same with the Wolves.

Its to early to call anything with Henderson but I think with him in the last year of his deal and only making roughly 3.1 mill I think it's going to be hard to deal him ..noir many teams if any are goin to trade just for his expiring and to have him the rest of the year..it's possible but 3 mill isn't going to give teams much relief ...

I think our 2 options as far as dealing him are #1 to trade him to a team for a player and a pick ..but we wont get much in return ..after trying to match salaries ..we could possibly get a player making around 3 and I guess a pick in return ( but that's only if he agrees long term I would imagine ..I'm not positive how the cap works if we were to trade with a team under the cap but I know most times the salaries need to match
#2 ..trading him with Diop ( @ 7.5 mill ) meaning we could get a guy making roughly 10 mill in return ) this is an option I would think might happen if a deal with Utah for Milsap would ever happen

Honestly I think in order to get Milsap we would prob have to give up Henderson / Diop and a pick to get Milsap..that's not so crazy of a deal but when it comes down to dealing him my thoughts have changed somewhat ..Taylor hasn't been playing very good ball lately , so it would def male 1 of our deepest most talented positions change drastically

We also have the option of keeping him ..I wouldnt spend too much on the guy but I'd he were open to say a 4 year deal worth around 28 mill then it's something I would consider .I definately think his stats will improve now that he is starting so that's something we will just have to wait and see ..after we deal Gordon be4 the deadline next year and if we deal Henderson this year or just let him walk then that would really be slim at SG

I'm not really sure there is high demand for Henderson but we all know that all it takes is 1 team ..we are in desperate need of low post scoring and low post defense and I really think that we need to do whatever it takes to get a top notch guy ( within reason ) And regardless of dealing for a big man or just hoping to sign a guy this summer it is something that has to be done ..and this summer is loaded with free agent bigs..obviously Milsap is high on my list but I will tell u 1 guy who is under the radar who is young and very talented is Nikolas Pekovic from Minny ..I know I'm getting off track but he is a guy that probably just wants to cash in ..no matter where he goes ..so he is a guy I would really like to throw a big contract at this summer

Lastly on Henderson ..I am pretty open to either keeping or trading him ..it wouldn't bother me either way ..I think he can be an asset for us moving forward ( for the right price ) and as a guy coming off the bench with a guy way more talented then Taylor ... I would really like to get some more info on how a trade might work with his salary only being a bit above 3 million ..I am pretty up to speed with how the cap and trades work in the NBA but I will admit I am somewhat puzzled about this ..so some more info from those who are cap nerds ( and I mean that tongue and cheek )

I did forget the fact that we can offer him a qualifying offer around 4 and some change next year ...I think this is probably our best option and then go from there with him ..I really think as should focus our trade attention to taking advantage of dealing Diop and Williams expiring deals ( totaling roughly 10 mill ) I think we could get something nice in return ( a better deal then Henderson ) whether that's a solid player and or pick ...or trade Diop , Williams and a pick and get a guy such as Milsap or Pekovik

I wouldn't pay Henderson too much (< $5 million per year). I would rather save the cap for re-signing Kemba or going after a franchise player. I think the best option might be to trade him for a player and pick. One option that comes to my mind is trading Henderson to the Pacers for Tyler Hansbrough and a 1st rounder. We can get by this year with Ben Gordon and Jeff Taylor playing the 2 spot and then get a younger improvement in the offseason. I do believe that we can sign/draft/trade for a better 2-guard option than Gerald Henderson.

No offense Roon but there is no way in hell we are getting Hansburough and a 1st for Hendo...u said yourself u wouldnt pay him more then 5 mill ..that type of guy doesnt get a solid big and a 1st....probably not even a 1st but maybe ....

I do agree i wouldnt pay Henderson much either....6-7 would be max for me but as for saving cap to sign Kemba and other guys...honestly we have alot of cap flexibility over the next several years

I just dont see us getting much for Hendo...unless we package Diop expiring and say Portlands 1st rounder

Im starting to think the best option is to sign him to his qualifying offer at 4 mill next year and then go from there....unless some great deal comes our way

Haha Chef I hear ya on that ...I was referring To Hansbrough..and I admit he isn't a great big but he is averaging 6 points and 4 rbds in 16 minutes ( which is his worst season so far ) the previous 2 seasons when he was getting 20 minutes a game he averaged 10 points and 5 rbds ..and obviously those #s would improve if he saw 25 minutes a game ..so by no means is he a stiff and with Bigs in general at a very high demand I'm sure there r teams who would love to have him

Hansbrough would be an improvement over Diop and would help us with toughness and rebounding down low ( where we r bottom half in the league ..I just don't see getting any big man ( unless they had a bad contract ) as well as a 1st for Henderson ....especially if it's a 2013 1st which should be a good pick ..that was my point

i agree, hendo probably won't fetch a 1st unless a LT team is desperately trying to get under the cap and we take back more money on a 2+ year deal. i still think hendo could get a player like marshon brooks, xavier henry, or the like. hell, i would take a shot at jan vessley if the wiz wanted to move him.

but, i do not like hansbrough and would absolutely hate watching him night in and night out. his game and watching him is like syrup of ipecac for me.

While I respect your dislike for Tyler ( bc I'm not a fan either ) he would be an improvement ..as for Hendo ..his 3 mill salary wouldn't fetch much bc it doesn't give a team much relief

No offense but Hendo is a better player then Brooks or Henry and that's my opinion ..we don't need guards or wing players ..we need big men ...and Hansbrough would drastically improve our defensive and offensive rebounding while giving us 8-10 Points a game ..not to mention Hendo and Hansbrough make the same $$ and both have qualifying offers next year

While I wish we could get alot more for Hendo the reality is that he isjust a bit above average and is expiring ( w exception of qualifying off ) we could prob get an even swap and prob a 2nd rounder but to say we could get Tyler and a 1st for Hendo is crazy ...unless we threw in Diop's expiring for an additional player and maybe a 1st
