How in the world was Duncan "way past his prime" then, when six years (!!!) later he is having a 1st Team All-NBA type of season? He was a 20/11/2/3 player when they won in 2007 and 22/12/3/3 in the playoffs. That is in no way past him prime.
And I think Kidd qualifies far more as past his prime than Dirk. Dirk absolutely destroyed people in the playoffs two years ago when he averaged 28 points and 8 rebounds. Kidd on the other hand was a 9/7/4 player. Who do you think had a bigger impact on them winning that title? Seems like an easy answer to me.
I seem to remember Harden getting much more flack than any other player on that Thunder team last year and, besides, that was their first trip to the Finals. Can't really fault them for losing when the Heat lost their first trip as well and had two of the three best players in the world on that team.It is well documented that Westbrook is the most controversial player, in terms of playing style, in the NBA. He was the target of vehement critics during the finals...and he is easily the most hated player, outside of the Europeans, by basketball purists. He is credited the most out of any of the Thunder players to be the reason they lost..his impact was actually worse than Harden's disappearance...just ask Magic Johnson who knows a thing or two about running the point.
Rondo wasn't anywhere near the guy he is now when they won the title. You're adding all sorts of revisionist history with that one. He only averaged 26 minutes in the finals and aside from one game where he went nuts for 16 assists, he had games of 7, 4, 2, 3, and 8 assists. Nowhere near the impact you're assuming. That team leaned on KG and Pierce heavily and it showed. KG was particularly dominant. The Big 3 in Boston was not the Big 3 in LA or the Big 3 in Miami...it was a Big 4 that won the championship...three of them were past their prime and that 4th guy was a dime-dropper.. if Brandon Jennings were on that team against those Lakers, they would have failed miserably. They had no *super-star in LeBron, Kobe, Durant, or Melo to lean on when the offense was off...they needed a PG that would create synergy (a unit that is more valuable than the sum of it's parts).
Coincidentally, the year those three won titles, the average assists of the PGs were 5.5 (Tony Parker...... not a "dime-dropper" by any means anyway), 5.1 (Rondo... they haven't won anything SINCE he became a "dime dropper"), and 8.2 (for Kidd, funnily enough, that number dropped to 6.3 in the finals as he became more of a shooter while Dirk was dominating)Here is a list of the league's most respected coaches: Thibadeau, Carl, Brooks, Carlisle, Rivers, Popavich. The last 3 won rings..coincidentally, they prefer dime-droppers of score first PG's

He is pretty damn good. Only a fool would trade away a talent like Kemba has.

I find it hard to believe that this question is still being raised ..Kemba has been the biggest surprise and shown the most improvement this year ..of course in our first 12 games there were alot of surprises but as the season has gone on and we have come down to earth I think that without question that Kemba has been out best player the entire season
A 2nd year PG averaging 18 points ..6 assists..3 rbds 2 steals while averaging roughly 43% from the field ( a big improvement ) ..to put it in perspective Kemba is 6th in the NBA among PG's in scoring ...6th in the NBA among PG's in steals...12th among NBA PG's in assists ..10th in the NBA among PG's in rbds and 10th among NBA PG's in FG %
In my book those are pretty damn good #'s for any player , much less a 2nd year PG who has improved in basically every category ..on top of these stats the guy has shown to be a workhorse who has heart and puts it on the line night in and night out ..by no means am I saying he is a top PG in the league ( yet ) but I think it's foolish not to see how much he has improved in 1 offseason and how much more he can possibly improve
I honestly think that Kemba can be a top 10 PG and maybe even closer to 5 as time goes on ..and I also think that without question he is a guy who can lead us not only to the playoffs but can really help us be successful long term as a playoff team ..of course there are better guys out there and every1 is entitled to their own opinion but honestly if u don't think Kemba is our guy then who do u think is ?? And who do u think we could realistically replace him with ..I just don't see any1 currently better or with the potential he has that would come to Charlotte ..I'm a firm believer in Kemba and I look forward to his progression
1 last point ..I know alot of people's critisism with Kemba is his assist total ..but really I think 6 a game is pretty decent and I think that # can only go up as we get more talent and scorers to surround him with ..I really think he can be a guy in 2 years that can average 20 points 8 assists 3-4 rbds and 2 steals a game

If Kemba keeps improving, then yes, I believe we can make the playoffs with him. I really want to see him establish himself as a distributor before we can label him as a franchise PG.
As i mentioned be4 his 6 assists a game isnt bad at all , ranking 12th in the NBA.....and also like i mentioned as we get better talent and better scorers ( most importantly Low post scoring ) his assists per game will improve...not only bc players will be making the shots he dishes out but also he wont have to feel like he has to be such a scorer when he has more scoring around him....dont get me wrong he will always be a scorer but i can definately see him passing the ball more when he is comfortable passing to big time guys
u can count on 1 hand the guys who average 9-11+ assists a game ..ala Rondo / Paul ect....these are guys who are not only amazing PG's but overal top players in the NBA...not every pg can achieve that...i think if Kemba can improve to 7.5 or so assists a game ( along with 17-20 points ) then i think thats more then enough to lead us to where we need to go
