A compotent big man with our second pick in Olnyck, fills a need and looks like a poor mans Bill Walton, potential to drop 15 a night... I'm sold!

On another note the Zags have taken down a lot of tough non conference opponents aswell, both Oklahoma colleges, strong front court in Baylor another tough frontcourt in K-State + a 1 point loss to a very good butler team whose frontcourt gave Zeller major problems, BYU + a decent St Mary's team with olympian Delavedova.

Olynyk has performed sufficiently well in all of em looking at the stat sheet with the exception of Butler and Oklahoma early on in the season where he was finding his feet, I bet if he had superior length he'd be a lock to go in top 5 probably ahead of Len.

But seriously I've only seen Walton highlights for the most part. I did catch him on tv in the mid-80's as an old Celtic.

There was a famous game when Walton shot something like 14-14 for UCLA in the final four. That's what Olynyk looked like in the one game against BYU. He even has the hippie hair and headband thing going.

So I'd say Olynyk was a dead ringer for Walton against BYU, but is generally a very poor man's version. He looks like he belongs in an NBA rotation. His passing, touch, and comfort in that high post is what reminds me of Walton, along with the goofy hairdo.

I'm not sure who I would compare him to among more modern players. I could see him dropping 18 points a night in the league at MAXIMUM potential. Probably more likely 15 points in his best season IF he develops and gets opportunities. IF.....
as i age, i am slowly developing the old man's post game, it is in it's infancy but will absolutely "accidentally" step on your foot as we are fighting for rebounding position to keep you from jumping as high. so you may have to dig deeper into your bag of tricks.

a poor man's walton is still the bill gates of diop and haywood so sign me up.

Where are you guys getting his lack of length or non superior length from? I couldn't find any wingspan measurements from him in my rudimentary searches.

All I've seen are highlights, but he does look like an interesting player.
Bennett is a phenomenal athlete as well as a great offensive rebounder. He can also score from anywhere. He would fit exactly what we need. And they say he's 6'7,but that was coming out of high school. I've seen him listed @ 6'8 several places lately. And he has a 7'1 wingspan. I wouldn't worry about his height. He plays like an absolute pit bull!

Just from the "eye test". I will concede that the "eye test" can sometimes be deceptive, but it's all we have for now. When he shoots free throws his arm does not appear to extend very far beyond his head. He appears to have a giant melon, and therefore the length of a typical 6'10" guy. But at least he has a big body and the court vision of a 7'0"-footer.

Also he is a mobile 7'0", but his shotblocking numbers are not outstanding.

I can only speculate for now until we get those darn pre draft measurement numbers. I'm hoping he'll have a 9'0" reach and 7'1" wingspan. Hoping. That's about the highest I can expect based on how he looks on TV.

I can't wait to see more of him. And I was attending games during the LJ era, so it brings back fond memories. Although, Bennett is a little more of a perimeter player than LJ, but that's a good thing at 6'7"-6'8".

There's a running joke that the Zags are the best team in the Big 12 this year....

I think part of the problem is that Olynyk didn't tear it up as a younger player. If I'm not mistaken he's a redshirt junior. So he's one of the physically-mature guys who SHOULD be playing well.

It sounds like you've been doing your own research and that's good. Don't take my word for it. I've caught Olynyk on some good nights.

The fact of the matter is, he's not that great as a shotblocker or rebounder. I'd like to see that part of his game expand. A mean streak player who gets it done of both ends of the court instead of just a nice offensive big man. But as a Bobcats fan, I am so ready for a big man who can score, I am willing to look the other way on defense/rebounding, especially since Biyombo and MKG are theoretically good defensive players for the long haul......Frankly, Olynyk would fit it in superbly with those guys....

You make the mistake of assuming that "jumping" is still part of my skill set.....

Bennett would be a great fit with MKG. MKG likes to post up. Bennett likes to hang around the perimeter. A Bennett/MKG/Biyombo frontline would be small, but there would be plenty of length and strength there. Then you mix in Taylor for a lot of size at the 2-spot. Maybe it could work.
