As I've mentioned previously, I'm in favor of sitting out the 2013 free agency period and doubling down on 2014. For 2013, wait until some decent players go without offers (and some always do once teams run out of money). Once they've been humbled, sign 'em up to 1-year deals. Don't hand out any long-term deals until 2014 though. In 2014, you focus on young, hungry, huge upside players that are ready to enter their prime and willing to commit long-term to what we're doing. In 2013, if you want to take a flyer on some young guy that came into the league with hype, but has yet to prove squat, and he's willing to sign for one year? Fine, go for it. Some past his prime dude that still has a "name" and might sell tickets for a couple weeks before the casual fans catch on? I suppose... if you must.
