As shallow as this draft is and the availability/ probability that any big time free agent will come here. We stand a good chance of having a lot of ping pong balls but, as we saw this year....the ping pong balls have never went our way.

Hmmm. On lottery night I'd have agreed with you but seeing MKG in action, I'm not convinced we didn't get the best player in the draft with the number 2 pick. Unibrow would've been ideal considering our weakness inside but MKG has that "something" about him that has me drooling and he's just a few months past 19 years old. The kid is special and will be our co-captain next year, something I'm not sure Davis would provide so quickly.

As for the OP:

I like a lot of those moves. They shore up a lot of deficiencies for us but are not so overwhelming that they'd take us out of the upper lottery which we need to be in for one more year. I'd still strongly consider moving one or more of Junior, Sessions, and BG at this year's deadline but only if the returns are what we're looking for (i.e. assets).

Like others, I really like EmmaCat's plan. Some solid vet signings with the focus on finding core-type talent in the draft while keeping flexibility. Really good job with that, EmmaCat.

I also agree with Beagle about MKG. That kid just has that "it" factor that is just undeniable. The way he plays and carries himself off the court are going to be such major assets for the Cats going forward.

I think Stern rigging the draft is the only way we get Wiggins in 2014 because:

Kemba (2 years of improvement)
Muhammad/McLemore (solid rookie) or FA scorer
MKG (1 year of improvement, meaning less rookie calls) ditto for Jeffery Taylor
Bismack (2 years of improvement)
FA big or Noel (solid rookie)

is going to be a good enough core to send us well on our way out of the basement. I think Kemba will get a little better, MKG will make a big leap mostly from being less disrespected by the zebras (and hopefully finds some semblance of a jumpshot) and Biz could potentially make a drastic leap in improvement, although year 4 is where I think we'll see it definitively b/c he's rawer than most big men projects. Mullens will hopefully get a little better, chemistry will be one year stronger and our draft picks should come in and contribute right away. We're slowly turning the tide from college all-star team to a veteran squad.

Honestly? I don't see the benefit in spending a bunch of money on a pair of hustle\energy bigs when the roster needs a premier perimeter scorer and a post-up option. I'd rather punt by picking up Warricks' final year and keeping Adrien around so you have flexibility going forward.

just a question; is there already (i know its a way early discussion) free agency 13/14 thread. me being a newbie, i didnt feel right to open one. anyway, since this thread is about rebuilding, FA is part of the process.

IMO FA targets could be
JJ Hickson from the Blazers PF/C
Wright from the Mavs PF/C
Cassipi from the Cavs SF
Dom Jones from the Mavs SG
Jamison from the Lakers F
Speights from the Grizz PF
McRoberts from the Magic PF
Carroll from the Jazz SF
Blair from the Spurs PF/C
but of course Millsap would be the best PF possible to sign, yet I guess its unlikely that CHA is in a position to sign a potential all-star without overpaying him.

Replacing our offensively challenged role players with other teams' offensively challenged role players doesn't accomplish anything except tying up money.

I'd take Muhammed And sign Millsap all day long. I'd actually like to try and see if we could trade Gordon's expiring before the draft to try and get Len or Noel too. That's unlikely though. And no thanks on Hickson And Hansborough. Hickson has played well for half a season in limited minutes and Tyler is not a starter in the NBA. Neither are worth wasting cap room on.
