One thing that has worried me is his lack of blocked shots this year. I think the reason for this is he is weary of not getting in foul trouble Se isn't trying to block as much. It's also a reason why I this his rebounding has gone up, he isn't challenging as many shots so he has a better rebounding position.

Can anyone point me to a big with terrible hands that learned how to catch?

You should be more concerned about his footwork and rotations than his hands. It's unlikely that he's ever even an acceptable offensive presence, but plenty of players have made careers out of being defensive specialists. If Charlotte winds up getting a more athletic Reggie Evans, it'll be a mild success of a draft pick.

Reggie Evans is a terrible defensive player
You're exactly right. Last year Biz chased blocks like a dog chasing cars. He got a lot of blocks but he torpedoed the defense doing that b/c his man would get the rebound and the easy bucket. In our defense this year, rotations are even more crucial so if Biz went for blocks like last year he'd play about 10 minutes per game and have an awful +/-.
I'm still not convinced that Biz has bad hands necessarily, I think he has inexperienced hands. I've seen him catch bullets with ease, he just can't catch passes he isn't expecting (b/c he never expects to get passed to) and also on post entries he has a problem of going into his move before he catches the ball. A lot of that can be improved with experience.

His rotations and positioning are both very good. He's not a shot-blocker and he doesn't generate a ton of steals, but he's a solid defensive four. If Biz figured out how to play team defense, combined with his athleticism, he'd be excellent on one end of the floor, at least.
I have been pretty impressed with Biz since he got inserted into the starting lineup full time....i do agree that he has some trouble with the Pick and Roll but thats to be expected bc he didnt learn that game growing up....pick and roll is very heavy in todays NBA...Biz is a very hard worker and from what every1 says he is very easy to coach...so i expect that the pick and roll issue is something that will be addressed in the offseason
aside from his Pick and Roll issues and a few other defensive issues ( which can all be fixed ) i think he has really shown some good improvement from year 1 to now...yea i know the stats might not show it now but if he continues to start the rest of the season i fully expect him to finish with better stats then last season...my guess is 8 points 10 rbds 1.5 blocks by seasons end...i also agree that 30 games thru his 2nd season is way way too early to make a final judgement on him...i mean can the guy at least finish his 2nd season be4 ppl call him a bust??>.....we all knew that he was a project so everything i have seen thusfar was pretty much what i expected
On a side note his horrible hands have looked alot better over the past 10 games or so
Team defense? Absolutely.
But 1 on 1 against physical guys and in agitating people he's a very good defender. Sucks that most good 4s and 5s are mobile or are able to hit from 15ft or further out now though. Also, he's taken a nosedive since he trained under flopmaster CP3
I think it was spectre who made this point a while back, sorry for the false acclaim/blame if it wasn't you spectre:
Biz's game will be systematically broken down by Dunlap this year so that it can be (re)built correctly over the next couple. It's all about short term pain for long term gain and while I too find myself guilty of a lack of patience at times, this can only be a good thing.
It seems Biz will show different things in different games. I've seen him post-up and finish with a decent looking hook shot this season. I've seen him block shots. I've seen him rebound etc. What I haven't seen is him putting it all together ... and that is what is going to take the time. I think 7 points, 9 rebounds & 1.5 blcoks (similar to Styleg1234) is where he's at this season, but once he pieces things together I think his production will jump up significantly.
Yeah I think I did say that. Either way it's what I believe and I also think we're already seeing some benefit. If you look at the entire picture it really is promising what he's been displaying this early on.
One thing I think is kind of pertinent: one of the big issues teams have had with developing raw players (and one of the main reasons why they changed the age limit) is losing a player to another team after spending the time and money to get them to where they need to be. I don't think we'll have that problem with Biz. I see him being a loyal guy to us for doing it and staying around as long as we want him on a pretty reasonable deal.
Hopefully I'm not fooling myself on that.
