No chance in hell Cho would have drafted this "wild card" player who is, as of now, merely big body who can time leaps to block shots: it's like Higgins or Jordan wanted to make the basketball equivalent of Frankenstein: construct a basketball player using a big body, a little athleticism, and teach the man how to play basketball..."see this? It's called a bas-ket-ball." I could envision the conversation after seeing him actually dribble.

I'm exaggerating..but out of frustration bc MJ and/or Higgens wanted to follow the Manute Bol blueprint, taking physical specimen and turing him into a basketball player. This also reminds me of Tebow, "we can turn him into a real qb" ..nope, another sports/science million dollar man project gone wrong. Sometimes I think Jay Bilas, in regards to his asessments during drafts is too damn flattering for his own good: he'll say "Cousins will need to work on his attitude" ..instead of "yup, the kings are idiots." More of the same "flattering" after this pick.

It's called a nack for seeing potential. **Consider this a gentlemen's bet that he will not pan out to what you optimists are expecting him to be. And why should we cross our fingers and hope? The great GMs draft polished players with ample evidence of potential..not wildcards. I'm glad Cho won't have his name attached to this.

I'll refer you to Ricky Rubio, who already was regarded as a dime-dropping phenom, was drafted in 09 and was left in Europe to develop his game (in an appropriate fashion where he could develop with lesser competition)..then took the league by storm last year. I'll avoid being a past- consumed Debbie downer and put a forward looking spin on this: let him develop with lesser competition..it's the best approach for extreme cases of raw talent.

1) give me similar instances where our current approach has worked.

2) show me how his progress in this stage indicates a pace towards being 7th pick material.

I want him to be able to rebound in traffic better but otherwise Biz is coming along just fine. He's easily our best screener up top; I think he defends the P'nR well actually, showing hard and running back to his man; and his offense is ahead of where I thought it'd be.

Don't want to burst any bubbles but Bismack was Cho's pick all along. He we to Spain personally to scout him when he was with Portland's FO and traded up to 7th with the intention of leapfrogging Detroit so he could get Bis.

And as far as I can remember, Rubio stayed in Spain on his own accord. He wasn't stashed by Minnesota and the report was he wasn't happy to be drafted by them.

What did you expect his offense to be? because if 2.7 points per game is exceeding expectations, im scared for my life.

Jermaine O'Neal didn't crack 5ppg til his 5th year in the league. We knew he was a project. Its not like we drafted an NBA ready guy like Trob.

I would much rather watch a raw player struggle and lose than watch a journeyman play so we can eek out a couple wins against the Wizards.
Maybe Biyombo will turn out to be a wasted pick. You have to keep in mind that that year's draft was incredibly weak. Derrick Williams was the #2 overall and he's been a bust in Minnesota. I was hoping for the Cats to pick Leonard who fell to San Antonio, but again, had they done that we would have had a logjam at the 3 and possibly passed on a superior player in Kidd-Gilchrist.
Given the weakness of the draft, taking a chance on a guy with by far the greatest athletic upside was a decent gamble and could still result in a very productive defensive player.
No GM has a perfect record of drafting. The best still draft busts. Even in OKC where the front office can seemingly do no wrong, they managed to draft Jeff Green with the #5 pick (ahead of Joakim Noah). You just have to hope that they have a good process and are committed to developing the players they draft.
