Default Bismack and his subtle improvement

I gotta get this out there. I went to the cle game last night and Biz was one if the main reasons we got down. He is terrible at defending the P&R. He was guarding Thompson tight out at the 3 point line when he didnt have the ball CONSTANTLY. Not to mention Zeller/Thompson had theit way eith him inside. He is not a threat on offense at all. He either travels, bobbles the ball, or forces something. If he's not blocking shots he's useless. That may be harsh but Im a biz fan but this has to be addressed. We played much better with Haywood out there.

I'm starting to lose faith in him.

Bigs with bad hands are just hopeless

Hes still a project in work. He has shown flashes of potential but he needs to get things consistent. How old is this guy again?

Which reminds me...remember when everyone was worried that he was in his mid-20's when we first drafted him?

BTW, he had another big rebounding game- 17 boards against the Pistons. That is one thing that he has really improved on and has been overlooked. He has been a monster on the boards recently.

When you are committed to developing young players there are going to be some ups and downs.

Biyombo was drafted with the understanding that he was a long-term project. Don't expect him to be good for at least two more seasons. It's just the way it is.

Absolutely correct. Year 3 is usually a good time to start evaluating your project bigs but with Biz being so raw and drafted in the lockout year, 4 is really the defining year.

It's hard to tell but he has made some incremental but important improvements. His offense has evolved from absolutely non-existent to some hook shots with either hand. His footwork is getting a little better and not traveling as much. He's not chasing impractical blocks all game and staying with his man better, biting on fakes less. His rebounding is much improved as a result of the former sentence.

This recent span of games, Biz has been going to the rim much harder and quickly, instead of trying to pivot around traffic. This is a huge sign of improvement as he is starting to play more instinctively and drop his Euro-style of trying to lay the ball in all the time. He's getting blocked right now but he's a pump fake away from jamming on people. When his teammates become more confident in Biz being able to finish a play, he'll get a lot more passes and slowly but surely his ability to catch said passes should improve as he continues to learn the speed of the game.
