I'm with you on the Zac Randolph idea Scottley Crue, he is the prototypical 4 for my taste. His contract is ... sobering: 2012: 16.5m; 2013 17.8m; 2014 16.5m (player option) ... he's 31 years of age ... has started 93% of games since becoming a starter in 03/04 ... so his injury history is pretty good ...

However BrotherDave is, regretfully, probably right ... he'll knock us out of the top 5 in the draft.

But it does go to show that the new CBA is frightening Owners and GMs. With the way our cap is looking moving forward, plus the acumen of Cho, we will be in the position to pull off a really good, missing piece, trade ... when we're ready.

Oh, I wasn't necessarily saying we should get Z-Bo, just that if they're willing to move him to get under the luxury tax, then i wonder who all might be available with the expirings we have left. Just a thought. I do agree that Cho has put himself in a good position to pick off some talent from those not wanting to pay the tax, though. Good on him for that.

Honestly, it would at least make this season more fun to watch. But like people have mentioned Da Grizz overpaid Rudy Gay and we need to keep the long term goal in mind. Fun player, would provide nice scoring but I prefer this squad to the purgatory of the 7-8th seed in the playoffs.

Gay isn't a franchise player, nor did he ever become the scoring franchise wing that the Grizzlies expected.
No way would I pay for him.

I always wondered if we got Rudy Gay on our team it would be weird wearing a jersey with "gay" on the back lol.

No. So long as it's in the lottery (which it's virtually certain to be) Charlotte has their own pick this year. They also have Portlands' 2013 first round pick, which is top-12 protected; and Detroits' 2013 first round pick, which is lottery protected this year, dropping to top-8 and top-1 protected in the next two years. The most likely scenario is that Charlotte has its own pick this year along with the pick from Portland, which will be somewhere between 13 and 20.

EDIT: If Charlotte were to go on an amazing run to the eighth seed in the East this year, Portland collapses in the second half, and Detroit fails to make the playoffs, it's technically possible that the Bobcats could have no first-round picks this year as well, although it's so improbable it doesn't warrant mentioning.

the most i would go would be their choice of deals either

    gordon and hendo for gay

    or

tyrus, hendo, diop, port pick for gay, speights

the problem is, he is good enough to win us some games but not good enough to be the man. i would be absolutely petrified that his addition plus some kemba year three improvement and mkg year 2 improvement could take us out of the top 5 of the 2014 lotto.

The factors in trading for Rudy Gay with the Grizzlies will be expiring contracts, draft picks, and players with decent PER now that Hollinger is making executive decisions in their front office. We could very well intrigue them with Sessions (18.2 PER), Hendo (16 PER/$3 million expiring), Diop ($7 million expiring), and the Portland 1st rounder. In all fairness they should be willing to offer us one of their seldom used young backup point guards out of Tony Wroten or Josh Selby.
