Anything that ships out Tyrus for a shorter contract is good by me. If you get a serviceable big man out of it, even better. Brooks is more of an off-the-bench type of scorer for the second unit than a real starting two-guard, but his rookie contract extends for two more years and gives Charlotte the ability to let Henderson walk if he gets a decent contract offer. I have to imagine that Brooklyn wanted one more piece that Cho wasn't willing to cough up, but if it was something like Mullens or Henderson I'd do the deal.
Team discussed sending Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas to Brooklyn for MarshonBrooks, Kris Humphries. As we were told last week, Gordon and Brooks are both
available.
I realize that Kris is no longer a starter and the Nets are playing much better now with him on the bench. I also realize that Marshon is not getting the PT from last season but that trade will not work. Brooklyn would be taking on 7+ million of additional salary and they are already 15 million into the luxury tax. Plus, from an overall talent vs future salary standpoint that trade favors us too much because of Tyrus. Even if we threw in the Portland pick, I doubt the Nets bite.
Ben Gordon and BJ Mullens for Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks and Tornike Shengelia works OK. We may have to throw in our 2014 2nd round pick to sweeten it a little.

You're right...didn't even think of plugging that into the trade checker. We're probably destined to eat every little bit of Tyrus' bloated contract.
Gordon for Hump/Brooks works. I'd probably do that. Same salary for a better need/middling prospect in Brooks. That way the original Bad Porn trade keeps on giving.

Tyrus can always be amnesty'd, and his cap number is actually useful for reaching the salary floor, if the team decides to hold onto all its' draft picks and build with more youth. Getting rid of him isn't top priority, but I do wish he had one less year on his contract.

just came up with this trade idea
Cha in - Humphies
Cha out - Diop, Tyrus
Brk in - Ilyasova, T. Thomas
Bfk out - Humphries, Brooks
Mil in - Diop, Brooks
Mil out - Ilyasova
would you trade diop and thomas for Humphries? I say yes to that
Mil gets a Mulligan on Ilysova deal, and the Nets get a better fit for their team
Bklyn wants Ersan Illyasova from the Bucks. The Bucks could use a replacement for Ersan but they already have there lineups because he hasn't been getting much burn because of his production. They could get a replacement on a rookie salary, a throw in and a pick. Ben Gordon I think could be used for a bigger fish like a starting caliber center.

Wishful thinking but we would have a lineup next year after playing together and resigning Jefferson, Hendo, Mullens and amnesty TT that would compete every game maybe even a top 4 seed in the east
Kemba, Sessions
Hendo, Brooks,
MKG, Taylor,
Humphries, Mullens, Warrick
Jefferson, Biz, Haywwod.

i still think this all smoke screen stuff as far as us "determined" to get our pick back and deal biz, etc.
however, after watching the kings last night it is painfully obvious why we want dmc so bad. check out this scenario.
trade 1: goal get our pick back to trade this years to the kings by the deadline
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b8fnzlj
out: gordon and mullens plus portland pick, in:boozer and our pick
trade 2: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=abzvntp
out: hendo, diop, biz, 2013 pick unprotected and det pick
in: salmons, cousins, j johnson (or jimmer), tony wroten
mem out: gay and wroten, in: garcia, evans, hendo
kings out: cousins, garcia, evans, johnson (jimmer), salmons, kings in: gay, diop, biz, det pick, our 2013 #1 unprotected
again, not in favor of it, but it is interesting.

Still don't think this is the right environment for Cousins to turn things around. It's all moot at this point, though, as the sale to Seattle ownership may have taken Cousins off the table.
