The pick is going to be a first-rounder, the question is whether it's Portland, Detroit, or Charlotte's own 2015. Ideally it's the 2015 pick, in which case I won't hate the trade. If it's one of the other picks, I'd rather it be Detroits', as it won't be conveyed for another year or two. If this goes down, I'd want to hold on to Portlands' pick to take a shot at either Plumlee or McAdoo in the middle of the first. I wouldn't hate going into next year with Kemba-Shabazz/McLemore-MKG-McAdoo-Pau. I wouldn't love it, but I could live with it.

I wouldn't mind the deal that much.....it fits with the current two year plan because Gasol would be a huge expiring contract next year. And we aren't giving up much....the only real thing is a pick if it's included. If it's our own pick I'm sure there would be a good bit of protection on it.

Chicago already has Charlotte's pick this year, but it's lottery protected until 2016(ish), meaning it won't actually be conveyed for two or three years, unless Cho turns the team around this summer in a big way. That turns any 2015 pick from Charlotte into a 2017 or 2018 pick, which is why it doesn't have a ton of value.

#Lakers-Bobcats in talks for a trade package that would send Pau Gasol to CHA for DeSanga Diop Ben Gordon and a pick (via @pantxopaniagua)

Hell, Pau Gasol might be rejuvenated in a new place where every little single thing he does gets scrutinized. He is a winner which fits the organization's frame and I have always been a fan of his. On a guard heavy team we can afford to give up Ben Gordon and getting Pau back in return would fit a need. There contract runs for the same amount of time, obviously we would want to trade for youth if we could but with BG's contract at 13 mill there isn't anyway your not going to be trading for a vet handing a big contract or a bunch of average guys. Either way, I think I like the deal, especially if it is that Portland pick. If they make the play offs this year its a weak draft so would be a good one to give it up on. Then again, if they just missed the play offs and got 12,13 or 14 it would be the best value pick as I don't see portland dropping below that seeding in the next 3 years.

Another trade rumor that I don't understand. At least Gasol fits a need area, but a soon-to-be 33 year old broken down player on a $17M salary doesn't seem like the "leader" veteran player that this young team needs. I know we need help on the blocks and on the boards, so at least it's not a rumor for another wing scorer. Personally, I'd much rather toss something at Minnesota to land a Williams/Pekovic package, keep our first rounders and keep the checkbook open.

Minny's not trading Pekovic and Williams for anything Charlotte has to offer. Pek is getting maxed by Minny this summer, it's just the way it is.

As an interesting aside, if this happened, would anyone here look to Toronto to get Bargnani back as a perimeter four? They seem intent on trading him, and if you could do it for Diop, Mullens, and Henderson plus maybe a pick it might be worth a look.

i would nominate cho for gm of the year if pau goes for diop, gordon and portlands pick. hell, i would throw in mullens too. it basically costs us 7 mil and a draft pick to have pau next year. at that point we could flip him to any number of playoff teams for another year of salary and another pick or two. and if he returns to form (which he absolutely would in my opinion) he could net quite a bit.

Looks like that tweet about Gasol was stolen from Bonnell. Rick posted this last night around 11:30 and was just speculating. Looks like someone found it and re-worded it to look like a rumor.

In fact, as bad as 2013 draft is, I'd offer Diop, Gordon and Bobcats' pick with top-5 protection for Gasol. Just conjecture...
