I know we need help on the blocks and on the boards, so at least it's not a rumor for another wing scorer. Personally, I'd much rather toss something at Minnesota to land a Williams/Pekovic package, keep our first rounders and keep the checkbook open.

Default Trade Deadline Rumors: Feb 21st

I actually can see good logic in the Pau trade. Getting him would not be for us or for building our foundation, at least not directly. At this point, we're 10-31, and adding him this year won't improve us too much out of the top pick runnings. Maybe we go 15-26 the rest of the way - 25 wins will still keep us right at the top of the lottery.

But this would be great for the offseason before the draft. He can probably get back to his 20-10 averages with us. Once all the contenders see that he's still got it, there will probably be a bidding war for his services. I'm sure the Knicks, bulls, thunder, spurs, nets, insert contender, would love to add a versatile scoring/rebounding/passing big. This opens up a ton more options for Cho to explore, since Gasol by himself would be much more valuable than Ben Gordon or a mid teens pick.

It's like that Barter Wars tv show, or whatever it's called. You just keep trading up your assets for slightly higher and higher value, and at the end you have enough value to trade for what you really want, without as much investment as you would have at first.

If Pau can't find the sack to get on the floor for the best franchise in the sport, I can't wait to see the excuses for why he can't take the floor for us.

If all these teams will trade for him next year or this offseason, they'll trade for him now. The man is 30+, has been hurt all year, and we want to cash in three assets for a guy who may be here no more than a full season? Barf.

I'd rather have traded for Rudy Gay

I haven't really paid much attention to the train wreck Lakers, but is he really bitching out, or is he just being scapegoated?

I know teams could trade for Gasol now, but maybe they don't like dealing with the Lakers and helping them out in any way, or maybe they are enjoying the hell out of seeing them implode and keeping a contender out of the race this year. Or maybe they don't trust Gasol because of said uterine issues. If the last one's the case though, then thats where I could see the logic in rehabilitating his image in the eyes of the league, and maybe getting a bidding war started and obtaining a higher asset than what we sent out.

But it probably is too many variables to count on to be a reliable trade, so I'm good standing pat.

Unless we could then trade him for Rudy Gay...

Pau is still good it's just the lakers offense is terrible. What could Pau have lost in one year? He's still got his post game, mid range, and can hit a three from time to time.

In July of this year, Pau will be 33 years old.

    Too old.
    Too much mileage.
    Too much salary.

Even if he we got him with the intention of flipping him after a year, you would have the risk of him coming here and playing like garbage and lowering his trade value.

    I'll pass.

What did you want us to do with BG then? Pau may be 34 but he is still a good player.

Read Plowright and polarcat's post earlier about the rumored Gasol trade and polarcat stated that he would rather have Pek and Williams from Minny. I think that is Cho's thinking, Minny said that they want a big and if the Lakers want BG and Diop so be it. We would have to take on about 5 mil more along with Pek and Williams but who cares. We have a young C and pf that we can use instead of and old Gasol.

Minnesota's not making that trade. Minny wanting Gasol is a relic from when they had Darko at center, they have zero reason to move real assets for Pau now that Pekovic has established himself.

Pek is going to be offered alot of money in the offseason and they don't have money to match any offer as he has outplayed his 4mil contract. Instead of loosing him for nothing why not get Gasol which they want since he plays with Rubio on the Spanish team. They want to get rid of Williams anyway and maybe a pick might sway them.
