Blowing up on Twitter. Bonnell thinks we're being named just to give the Grizzlies leverage with other teams. Thoughts?

Bonnell's Tweets:

In Sunday's Observer: Bobcats' Higgins on trade deadline -- "I don't think there's any limits on what we'd try to do."Rick Bonnell @rick_bonnell
The big rumor links Bobcats to Rudy Gay. But at what price? Gay makes $17.9M next season and $19.3M following season. (More)Would Bobcats absorb all that salary (Memphis has a luxury tax problem) and send mucho assets to Grizzlies?I'm confident Grizzlies dropped Bobcats' name to tell Wizards they might have competition for Gay. An old trick.

Maybe I missed the blowing up part, but it looks like 2 tweets, one from Bonnell. If Bonnell is mentioning it, I'm hesitant bc his presence with the 'Cats serves as more of a smokescreen/misinformation reporter. I just don't understand the desire for Rudy Gay.... is he not an athletic SF rather than a PF? With MKG and the need for a post presence, force on the boards kind of 4, why would we risk moving the pieces necessary to acquire a high-end talent like Gay if it's not really filling a need? Not to mention the way it would strap our cap.
EDIT: Sorry Black, I didn't see all of those tweets. Just saw the 2 from the initial link..... my bad. Still doesn't change the question of why though.

Blowing up was an exaggeration, but HoopsWorld/USA Today broke it. It would totally depend on the deal. That could make for a lot of UCONN Huskies on the Cats.

I don't see it either ... if we were talking about a double-double (a 15p-10rb would be the dream) back to the basket playing 4 then fine ... but we're not.
We need bigs! I could understand taking on Boozer's contract, assuming the deal struck was good enough, because he at least fills a need. Likewise Kris Humphries.

I would be totally against any trade bringing Gay to Charlotte. The only way I would want to be associated with it is if we were the third team involved. Maybe something like Gay to Boston, Pierce, Henderson, and Diop to Memphis, and Courtney Lee and picks to Charlotte would work. But I do not want Gay on this roster. It would make this whole rebuilding movement obsolete and would actually strangle our cap room for the next couple of years.
I'm sure Cho and Higgins will explore every possible option to improve this team. Right now, they have a nice-sized expiring contract in Diop, young guys you could give a spin before seeing if you want to restrict their free agency or let them walk for cap space (Hendo & Mullens) and some extra draft picks to play around with. They've got the goods too work things out if they want. I have little doubt they wouldn't mind turning some of this into a younger "vet" who can be a star. Gay would make a nice pairing with MKG, but the salary is the scary part. They'd have to believe he develops into a guy worthy of that cash.
Which leads me to this...I don't normally do this, but I'm going to have to agree with Bonnell. This does seem like its been floated by Memphis to up Rudy's value. Maybe the Cats do want Gay and maybe they have other deals to address the salary cap concerns he causes, but this doesn't exactly feel like a move they make. I could be wrong, but that's what I think.
I'd like to see them swap Gordon for Humphries, get what they can for Hendo and see what Diop and/or Williams' expiring will get them. Whatever actually goes down, I don't expect them to be quiet around the deadline this year.
I do not want to add Humphries or any just serviceable player to our roster unless it comes at a total discount in which we rob the opposing team in the trade. I want players that can make an immediate impact or the potential to become a All-Star. That's why the only players I'm really interested in trading for are Rudy Gay, Josh Smith, DeMarcus Cousins, and/or Derrick Williams. Otherwise, we might as well save the cap space & continue to dwell at the bottom of the standings with our already underwhelming roster into top 5 draft picks.
