Funny, when I think Mike Wilbon, I think Washington Post.
In the end, there are a precious few that should matter in what our team is called. So if it's Mike Wilbon or Chuck D or Alonzo Mourning or George Shinn or George Maloof that think we should be Hornets, they don't really play into the calculus. Important as they might be in their own right, they are hardly important to this point - are you a fan of THIS franchise? Do you support THIS franchise? If you can answer yes to those two questions, you have an opinion that matters - all others really are just muddying the river.

Debating on whether an opinion matters does bring some light onto this.
I like a lot on here just want a continued viable franchise in Charlotte for a LONG time. The name doesn't mean shit to me but I do prefer we remain the Bobcats; we've suffered as the butt of all jokes under that name and I want redemption for when we turn it around. In the end however it's more important that the franchise make money and have the tools to compete. None of us are leaving if they change to Hornets and we'll all get over being butthurt with the name leaving and going to the cesspool in NOLA.
Maybe it'll bring in some of those fair weather fans. Maybe it'll take some talking points away from the idiot detractors. Either way I don't see changing the name as being a net negative and plenty of ways it can be a positive in regards to helping our stability.
We who don't favor a name change should keep that in mind. If it helps keep the team we all love then screw it...get it done already.

I agree with mostly everything you said. The only difference we have is preference, but other than that, this sentiment is the most important thing.

QC beat me to the punch: past the obvious disagreement in our personal preference, I agree with you 100%, Spectre. Probably one of the most succinct, sensible posts I've seen on the subject.
