this is why I hate the entire situation. Bobcats people are getting pissed at Hornets people and Hornets people are getting defensive to the derision. It's just one big hissy fit that I'd rather do without.

And I still don't understand the BBTB movement. They claim to want everything associated with the "Good ol' (Hornets) Days", but you guys aren't getting any of that back.

You're getting a name that was sullied by the last owner, then used by a franchise for another 10+ years in a different city, then only returned as used second-hand goods after they decided it wasn't good enough for them.

You aren't getting Muggsy, Grandmama, Zo, Dell, Phills, or any of that back. You aren't getting any of the attendance records back. You aren't getting the playoffs appearances back. You aren't getting anything but a name.

And I can't wait to see the reactions by all of these guys when the product on the floor still sucks, the general fans still suck, and nothing changes but the name. "Damn, we did all that hipster contrarian petitioning, and we still have to watch this?"

Swedd- we've been through it over and over. Pretty soon no one will be mad because it will soon be settled and for better or worse we will be behind this situation.

The BBTB movement was to bring together a group of like minded people that shared a common purpose.

To me it has served it's purpose- the Bobcats have obviously taken notice as witnessed by the teams 180 from just 1 year ago on the name change subject....just 1 year ago this month Jordan said in his Chairmans corner letter that there wasn't a groundswell of support for the Hornets name, now he has publically said he has definite interest and the team has sent a survey asking specifically about the Hornets name.

I joined the movement because it was something I was passionate about and believed that the majority of Charlotte is/was too. My only real expectation was to get the Bobcats attention and if it was possible to bring the name home.

I'm thrilled that the Bobcats have acknowledged it as a legit business decision, if in the end my hopes don't come to fruition, I will accept that I fought a good fight and tried everything I could to make it happen. I will continue to support my hometown team and hope like hell that Charlotte gets behind the team. I won't continue to beat the dead horse...

For me this is a no limit hold'em poker event and I'm all in. If I lose, I will accept that there wasn't the support or at least we couldn't prove to MJ that their was enough support to justify a name change.

When the team makes the decision I will accept it and move on in supporting their decision. This is a devisive issue and I look forward to the the resolution.

I'm way to old and dull to be a "hipster" I don't even really know what the F a hipster is... I'm just a fan of the NBA and my hometown.

Don't you think it's a bit fickle to start a movement over a "name" ?

That's the thing that separates us.

To me it's not "a" name, it's our name. It means Charlotte

Bobcats is "a" name... I think that Bob Johnson would have named the team Bobcats if the NBA awarded an expansion team in Vancouver, St. Louis, or any other city... Charlotte was just the unlucky benefactor.

Plus it's a constant reminder of him bad mouthing Charlotte on his way out..."arrogant and incestuous"

As I've said and I don't want to go around and around yet again.

This is it... I'm all in

I bought season tickets today because, I'm convinced the Bobcats will run an honest assessment and I will support whatever they decide. All my chips are in the middle.

The only reason the Bobcats is A name while the Hornets is THE name is because you haven't given the Bobcats a chance to be it. Embrace them fully and drop whatever silly prejudices you have towards a name that may or may not have been named for himself and move on.

The Bobcats is THE name for a lot of fans out there btw, seems a little hypocritical to continuously push for them to lose THE name for them, don't you think?

I wonder if this debate is much more passionate on the board here than it is in the rest of the city, since most everyone on these boards are probably the most passionate fans of the team. But it seems like there is a lot of stereotyping going on of an entire segment of the population who share an opinion based on a small handful of dumbasses. And good or bad, I'm sure the Buzz folks don't necessarily represent the interests or mindset of all the people who may share the sentiment of the rebrand, but maybe not the execution of the movement.

There actually was an in depth study breaking down the groups supporting the team by some brilliant mind, Professor Panthro, or something like that:

I'm guessing the douchey hipsters (they've made it into Charlotte now?) occupy the far right blue group. But I think more people likely reside in the middle purple group, that they'll love the team either way, but maybe prefer one name over the other if it was an option, which appears to be reality now.

There are good arguments for either name pro and con, but I think this debate on here is going in circles, since it seems folks are misinterpreting or misunderstanding what a particular person actually believes, and are attacking an opinion or action of an isolated individual that doesn't represent an entire group.

Whats funny is that this exact debate is going on over at the New Orleans board, with people questioning fans' loyalties based on whether they like the Pelicans or are "Hornets-or-die". The most ridiculous and disconnected-from-reality post over there was this gem

How would you feel if next season Charlotte become the Hornets?

I would absolutely loathe them forever. I'm talking Redskins-Cowboys type of hatred. That's an unforgivable sports sin in my eyes. I'd be even more angry at them for stealing our name than I am at Benson for rebranding.
So I guess that is more unforgivable than having the actual team stolen from our city? I appreciate our board more and more with seeing how logic works on other boards.

Anyway, my guess on the survey is that the season ticket holders will be split on the rebrand, with the general population more in favor of it.

I wouldn't be so sure that we don't get team records back swedd. Stern and Silver really seem to want to bring the old Hornets atmosphere back to Charlotte and Benson seems like he could give a shit less. I can easily see an agreement being reached where we keep any records that were made in "Charlotte Hornets" jerseys, and just having the Bobcats numbers rolled in with that. And i could see New Orleans just keeping records from 2001 and on, or just starting over. I'm sure some of their fans would like to forget Chris Paul anyway! lol.
Either way, i think we'll get some of our history back. The NBA is not stupid. They're going to want to run old commercials with LJ, ZO, and Mugsy next year to drum up marketing. They can't really do that if those players are re-tied our franchise in some way.

Haha! "We stole your team because of your greedy turd of an owner, but if you take the name back, WE'RE GONNA HATE YOU FOR IT!"

Okay good for you. You gotta keep coming out to the games tho. The whole buying tickets things is the smallest thing of the many that have made me upset over this tho.

But for sure....get as many people as you can get to go to a game. Personally I'm a upper level season ticket holder. YES I have cheap seats but I bought them for the whole season and I'm also a college student and freelance artist with money/time tied up into alot of different things. I've only missed one game this year. I've missed watching around 5 games TOTAL(home and away) for the past...6 years or so?

All I'm saying is quit worrying about a name and just support the Bobcats for who they are. Like I've said, bring back the buzz in a theoretical sense. Fill the seats and create "buzz"....or a "roar" of support for the Bobcats. If the name change happens, it happens.
