We can eat up to 5 million right off the bat using the trading rules. For instance say:

    Boozer/Hamilton for Henderson/Gordon

works and it cuts about 4.5 million off their cap instantly, not to mention the 18 million or so it'd save over the next 3 years.

OR they could send us Hinrich instead...push the overall savings to near 20 million (due to Hinrich's extra guaranteed year) and look to swap Hamilton to get them that extra couple million this year.

That's just in regards to US though. My post was concerning the idea that Chicago would wait til after the season to move Boozer in general. They most certainly might move Hamilton instead...but as cheap as Reinsdorf has been in the past it wouldn't shock me at all to see him dump Booz no matter how well he's playing at the moment.

    Edit:

BTW, just dumping Hamilton wouldn't get them under the LT either...still be 1 million short.

You sure? I thought it got them about a half million under. What figure do you have for the luxury tax for this season?

I'm limited at work, but both Hoopshype and ESPN trade machine have them over 76 million. 70 million is the cap isn't it?

    ESPN - 76,017,031
    HH has them at 74,638,230

    EDIT:

OK they conflict. MY last was at ESPN in the trade machine and that's what I based my comment on. Can you get to Storyteller's Bogg? Also look at Shamsports.

    Thx.

Alright, that's where the confusion is then, and that's why we're about a million and a half apart on where it puts them. Either way, since the team is playing really well, all things considered, I'd think they would hold off on a big shake-up until the summer. I've been wrong before, though.

Bogg, Storytellers has Chicago at 74,061,031 for tax purposes so you are right. I haven't went thru the numbers to make sure everyone is included but that site has been more accurate than most in the past.

There's a couple on there with the space to absorb Hamilton.

I wonder if Cho and Jordan would be willing to buy out williams or Adrien or someone else not making a ton on our roster to take on an extra player(daquan cook maybe?) that makes around a million to get Chicago under that amount? It'll be interesting to see. Oh' and good work boggs and spectre. I'm definitely not much of a cap expert! lol.

The Bulls aren't looking to rebuild or dump salary. We aren't going to be able to offer them crap and expect Boozer back when they think they can make a run. If anyone from Chicago comes here, it'd probably be Rip Hamilton. And we'd probably have to give up Henderson + some more pieces to make it happen.

Dude, i don't know what sport you've been watching but the bulls are desperate to dump salary. They have been since the summer. And it's not a matter of them rebuilding. They've already extended Gibson and need to rid themselves of Boozer's salary. They also need a veteran back up for Rose as well as a decent 2 guard. We have plenty to offer them in terms of saving money as well as role players who can help them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think dumping is allowed...for example, if Pau's contract is a boatload, someone involved in a trade would have to inherit his boatload contract and the LAL would pay no less for incoming players then what they were already paying for Pau.

    Am I missing something?

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your question but I took it as such: "a team isn't allowed to trade a big salary for nothing in return"

In which case, the answer is: They are allowed to provided the other team has enough salary cap room to absorb the full amount.

If we had $19million available in cap room right now, we could trade nothing but a draft pick for Pau.
If we had, say, $10million free, we could do a trade with $9m out and his $19m in.

    Whatever makes the salaries match.
