I still think it was dumb taking Augustin over Brook Lopez in the draft. Great job guys!
Today the Wall Street Journal highlighted the lack of contribution of Gana Diop! Larry Brown ran up the price of Gana (then a Dallas Maverick) during the summer, Mark Cuban resigned Gana to a back loaded contract and then swiftly traded Gana and his contract to the Cats a few months later. The makeup of the contracts (Ryan Hollins/Matt Carroll vs Gana) were mostly equal at the time. Hollins' contract expired at the end of that season, Carroll's contract decrease each year by about $500k per, and Diop's contract has increased each season (this being the final year).

It wasn't just LB it was the impatience of the folks in the front office and in ownership. We made a lot of the bad moves because we wanted to be good before we had the chance to lay a real foundation.
We traded for Nazr rather then build a rotation of bigs through the draft and that cost us cap space. We traded our pick for Jason Richardson when Noah was still on the board, costing us more cap space. We also signed Matt Carroll to that horrible contract we traded for Diop. We spent our money to be decent right away and it kept us from getting the top talent in the draft. Hopefully we have learned something from that.

Everything went downhill when we traded Walter Hermann away

Part of my Bobcat soul died when we traded the Claw away. Should've been ammo instead.
No one liked the moves that Larry made but they're in the past now. Diop is actually an asset right now because he's a 9 million dollar expiring and we can amnesty Tyrus in the off season if we want to clear that roster spot and sign a free agent. It might cost money but it's not like there are any guys from the brown era that we are tied to going forward that would stand in the way of progress.
