    ZIGGY, mods, who ever ?
    Hey Dav,

    Like JGib said, I'm still undecided at this point. I have the hornetsplanet domain registered just in case that's the one that I go with.

    If the change becomes official, maybe I'll put it up to a site vote.

    Ziggy you should start a petition to get the bobcats renamed the bobcats
    As long as NC has a team, I'm going to cheer for it

    Thanks to John Morgan for posting it on the WeBeelive page, but Muggsy posted this on FB earlier:

    I hope everyone is collecting all of their Hornets stuff while its still retro!
    Awesome.

    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/p...ase_NC_211.pdf

    "As long as we were polling on basketball we also looked at the issue of the Charlotte
    Bobcats potentially changing their name back to the Hornets. Overall North Carolinians
    are ambivalent- 45% have no opinion to 35% who support it and 20% that are opposed.
    But among the 28% of voters who actually consider themselves to be Bobcats fans,

    there's 61/19 support for the name change."

    So this is a little bit better than an observer poll and is the first offical poll that I have ever seen released.

    The Poll contacted 600 people and these are ?'s & the results.

    Bobcats fan?
    Yes = 28%
    No = 72%

    Do you support a renaming the team to Hornets?
    Yes = 35%
    No = 20%
    Not Sure = 45%

    The Crosstabs is where I thought it was interesting.
    • 60% of the people in area code 704 supported the name changing to Hornets vs. 21% against and 19% not sure.
    • The majority of people outside of 704- Don't care or are "not sure"
    • Only 22% of Whites consider themselves Bobcats fans vs 47% for African Americans & 29% for other.
    • of the 35% that support the Hornets name-African Americans have the highest % of support at 41% vs. 35% for White and19% for "other"
    • Age group isn't a factor as its pretty even %'s 18-65 for support. opposition drops off largely in the 46-65 ager group.
    • Large Majority of both Democrats & Republicans don't consider themselves fans.
    • only 1/4 Men & Women consider themselves fans.

    The lower % support group (46-65) has the strongest support for the name change:

    Code:
    BASE  18-29 30-45  46-65   Older
    35%    36%    36%   38%    28%           Support
    20%    32%    30%   14%    15%           Oppose
    45%    32%    34%   48%    57%           Not Sure
    They also have the largest % of "don't give a damn". 45 and under seems pretty close to splitting the vote.

    Default STH Survey Regarding Name Change

    Oh, I thought this was the result of the official Bobcats poll at first. But this is a PPP poll, not Harris. It's interesting to look at, but without knowing who or the distribution of the people in different geographical area they polled, you can't really take a lot from it.

    As everyone knows, the Raleigh metropolitan area hates Charlotte, so they couldn't give a damn about any Charlotte teams. Also, it seems most people that are college basketball fanatics around here could give two squirts about the NBA. Plus how many of those polled are actual basketball fans in the first place?

    So thats probably why it seems most people in the poll don't care, and the numbers are relatively close. What's more telling are the numbers from those that are actual supporters, where they strongly support a name change. I'm guessing the Harris poll will more likely reflect those numbers for season ticket holders, and for the general Charlotte area fans that support the team.

    And if Jordan is leaning toward a change, it might not even matter what the poll says unless its an overwhelming majority to maintain status quo. I wonder when those results will come out.

    Got to remember when looking at the % by age group that the base grouping is the driving factor.
    For example in the 600 person sample of this survey:
    36% of 35% equals 76 people &
    32% of 20% is 38 people.
    So in the 18-29 age group, Hornets is the favored name by a 2:1 margin.

    @QC- your right about The Raleigh area. The 252 & 919 area codes were the 2 lowest area codes in the state that identified themselves as Bobcats fans. (only 16 & 19%)

    If this would have been my poll, the first question would have been "Are you a fan of NBA basketball?" that would have allowed you to be able to dissect the results into the target group and cross tab those results.
