If Pek is going to be big target for us in free agency, it might be a good idea to move our expirings to get him here (provided something like is listed above comes along). Sure, we can throw money at him in the offseason, but if he's the guy we're looking to spend money on, why not get the right to match any offer ourselves and have more control of the situation? Of course, this works best if expiring deals that we don't intend to keep are sent out. In essence, put a "down payment" on Pek now. If major assets are needed to make it happen, then I do believe making the Wolves blush with a big offer would be the way to go if he's a major target.

My concern with what you suggested Scottley Crue is:

    1) Couldn't another team offer up one of those poison pill contracts?
    2) We've seen what Cho can do with expiring contracts (Maggette into Gordon & a 1st) that I'd only want to give them up if we're getting a player already of a favourable/fair multi year contract.

But if he's going to be involved in a trade to another club and he's who we really want, then I guess you've got to try to get him.

poison pill really only works if you are hamstrung with salary in the latter years. we are not. chicago and knicks were both, they would have been LT teams in the last year of the asik and lin deals.

this http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a2fs2vj plus us sending the lakers the portland pick and them sending us their 2nd rounder.

That works for me also as I still see us making a run at Humphries and Brooks from the Nets. With the money saved on your trade this one works http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b4vmokr

    Kemba, Sessions, Blake
    Hendo, Brooks, B Roy
    MKG, Taylor Ebanks
    Humphries, TT, Adrien
    Pek, Biz, Haywood

    Yes I'll take that team
