No way would I want to part with Sessions this year. And I want no part of Bargnani. Why in the world would we want him?
Detroit's pick is lottery protected this year, right? if that's the case, I don't mind waiting a one or two years to get it. This trade hasn't improved Detroit's chances to make the play-offs, they've lost their starting small forward and gained yet another point guard.

Sessions is at about the top of his value, and he's not unseating Kemba as the lead guard of the near future. Regardless of whether you think this is the right trade or not, cashing out high on Sessions is a good idea.Originally Posted by Roon
As far as Bargnani, he would give Charlotte a stretch four who can actually share a good deal of the scoring load and provide some stability to the offense. His shooting would open up lanes for MKG that have closed up since Mullens exited the rotation, and would make Biyombo's lack of offensive skill less important (you can always get away with one big who can't score). He also makes drafting Noel much more feasible, should it be decided that Noel is the best player available. Lastly, Bargs isn't good enough to actually take Charlotte out of the bottom (top?) of the lottery, so he shouldn't hurt the draft position over the next year or two.
I agree with trading Sessions by the deadline IF we get a decent offer for him from a team looking for a good backup pg to help them with depth for a playoff run. Strike while the iron is hot. Maybe get another proected 1st round pick out of it. I'm sure Cho will be wheelin' & dealin' at the deadline and he can get another backup pg in a different trade.
not to mention offensively capable 7 ftrs hold/increase in value as their contracts play out. so in 2 seasons he would easily be tradeable for a small value maybe a pick or young player.
Anybody on the team can get traded for the right deal, including Kemba, MKG, and based Diop.
However, I'm not trading Sessions for anything less than a net positive value. He's our only backup PG and is one of the best players in the league in that role. He's from the area and willingly took less money to come home. He seems comfortable in his 6th man spot and I'd resign him long term to fulfill that duty as one of the high quality vets the team needs.
I'm not seriously trading for Bargnani unless we unload Tyrus in the same deal. I'd much rather have Mully than Bargnani and his contract so I'm not taking that on just to do it.
Bargnani gives you the same mid-teens scoring per night that Sessions does, except he doesn't force you into smallball lineups that pull a competent swingman off the floor. Sessions is giving the team some volume scoring that they need, but he's only shooting 40% overall and less than 30% from three. You can easily divide Sessions' minutes between Henderson, Taylor, and Gordon with little drop-off, and you get a big bump in frontcourt scoring with minutes that would otherwise be played by Biz/Adrien/Haywood/Thomas being taken up by Bargnani.
Trading Sessions for Bargnani is a net positive.

Definitely overpaid, definitely better than Mullens. Just a temporary stop-gap to score some points and provide spacing for Biz/MKG to work around the rim. Not a guy worth breaking the bank for, but if you're just sending out a backup point guard and filler contracts it's worth a look. That being said, Colangelo is definitely in "gotta save my job" mode, so I think he's going to try and make a splashier move.
