Ideal 2013 Bobcats Draft

Let's say the Bobcats have the #1 Overall Pick and get the #13 Overall Pick from Portland. What is your ideal combination of picks?

Not sure if either guy would be there at 13, but if they were, I would pair Noel with either Oladipo or Smart.

I'm really starting to lean towards the Draft Noel camp recently. He's shown to be an equal talent to guys like McLemore and Shabazz, so going with the "you can't teach size" adage, I'd take him.


Assuming we get Noel with the 1, we can go a couple of different ways. We can pick up another big and use Viking and whoever else at the 2 for next year while we wait for the Wiggins sweepstakes, or we can take a wing and have more options next year.


Using DX as a guide and looking at #12 (to allow a little deviation) and beyond, I'd rank my top 3 outcomes as:

1. Noel and Goodwin (Goodwin plays like a dummy, but he's a phenomenal athlete, has great size/length, and has as much potential as a pseudo-PG/volume scorer as anybody else in the draft. I don't want to be high on him, but I'd hate to pass on him and he end up being a new age Sprewell)

2. Noel and Olynyk (I'm hesitant to pick a guy who isn't a fantastic athlete in the current NBA, but Olynyk has so much skill and can score from all over the floor that I think he'd be a great role player. you hope for more than that with a lottery pick, but he could look really good on a team in a Nick Collison role)

3. Noel and Oladipo (you want bench players to be great in individual roles. Oladipo would be an excellent defender AND shooter so he'd have a lot of value. Him and Taylor are similar players, sure, but you really can't have enough guys in that mld)

Based on his shooting %'s, AST/TO ratio, and the way he's killing his team that is filled with talent, I would be very much against Goodwin.

The only thing I like is his FTA's (although he has an awful FT%) and his athleticism. His inability to shoot the long ball would also hurt being alongside Kemba and MKG.

You're certainly right, and I'm not going to argue with you too much about it. I will say, though, that his 2P% is solid at 46.9%, his overall is just dragged down because he doesn't have any range. His game is very similar to Westbrook in that he is in constant attack the rim mode. It took Westbrook a few years to develop his jumper (and to be completely honest he still isn't there yet).

Like I said, he plays like a dummy, and I really don't want to like him. But you (universal you, not you you) can't help but see he has all of the physical tools necessary to be a great NBA player. We're going to have to take a chance on the second pick no matter which direction we go. Olynyk has questions, Poythress has questions, Porter, Oladipo, Robinson, Hardaway, etc all have questions. It's certainly a risk, but I'm of the belief that if you're going to take a risk on a player, it's hard to fault taking that risk on a guy who has probably the best physical tools of any guard in the draft.

I would say his TO's might go down if he was put at SG and wasn't asked to facilitate, but so would his assists. I'm just not seeing much out of Goodwin that you can't get out of a guy like Oladipo other than his ability to get to the line. Plus, with Dipo, you get elite level defense. A potential (occasional) lineup of Kemba-Oladipo-MKG/Taylor-Noel-Biz defense would smother opponents. That would be an AWFUL offense though. Either way, I think Oladipo is better in both the short run and the long run.

I really think that Oladipo kid can be something special he's a defensive monster
I'm also looking at Goodwin & Cauley-Stein.

Right now (which means little to nothing) I'm going with Noel/Oladipo or Shabazz/Cauley-Stein. I'd be fine going big/big as well but we need to get at least one of them.

possible trade up from 18 to 6-10 combining the detroit and portland pick which I think will be possible given the depth in this draft. Gobert and Austin both have big bust potential but you can't teach size and they both have huge upside also.
